well, i'm modding this desk i found, a pretty standard 3 sided box with a large top surface.

at the moment, its too tall for computer use & general hand writing so i will be cutting it down in size.

is there a standard height for work station desks? or method of height of a desk where you compare your elbow and forearm lays.

i will be using a ajustable height chair.

with a justable chair, i could cut the desk down by quite a bit and adjust the height of the chair to match my needs. at the moment when the chair is at maximum height, its still too tall for me. - is this a good idea?

p.s. i couldn't find a another catergy to post in, sorry in advance if i got it wrong.

I can't think of any specific formula for the ideal desk that would apply as there are too many factors...

What I would try though is to get into a comfortable seating position on the chair you plan to use to the desk, place your arms in what you consider the most comfortable typing position and get someone to measure the difference in height...

Im 6ft 8 for example and my desk is exactly 71CM in height and I find that perfectly comfortable.

ha thats funny, i'm 5ft 8 and i find my current 71 cm not very comfortable. my new one (refer to post above) is a lot taller but its free and easy to mod.

im 6ft 3 and my desk is 78cm from the floor to top, then again with adjustable chairs i dont think it matters too much?

better to cut of small ammounts as its easy enough to cut off more, not so easy to stick it back if you cut too'big a chunk out of it
