Basically just put a shuttle (sn95g5 v1) together for the wife and cant get the net on it ,

I have a belkin router and a belkin wireless card in the shuttle . I cant seem to even get the shuttle online sticking the net cable in to the back of it, please tell me what im doing wrong

Thanks Skywalker

are you connected through the same router with the pc your on now?
was the belkin router already in place?
is the shutle picking up an IP address from the router (not starting with 169.xx.xx.xx)
have you entered the WEP key correctly if your using WEP.
is it a new install of windows on the shuttle?

My pc is wired through the router
Yes the router was already in place as my laptop uses it
Not picking up any ip address
Not got that far
Fresh install of windows

Sorry i havent given much detail as this is all new to me, the laptop i just turned it on and it worked

does it say 0.0.0.0 for IP address, or 169.xx.xx.xx?
few things to try

- test it with your cable
- run the command prompt again type 'ping 127.0.0.1' does it give a result (this tests the TCP/IP protocol stack.
- try setting the IP address manually, set it toa similar IP address as yours, so if yours is 192.168.0.2, set that to 192.168.0.10 (only change the last section) make sure the subnet is the same as yours, and set the defualt gateway, and the dns server address to the IP address of your router (most probably 192.168.0.1)

Tested it with the cable at first and still nothing

In the cmd prompt i put 'ping 127.0.0.1 and got the following
Ping 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data
Reply from 127.0.0.1 : bytes =32 time < 1ms TTL = 128
Reply from 127.0.0.1 : bytes =32 time < 1ms TTL = 128
Reply from 127.0.0.1 : bytes =32 time < 1ms TTL = 128
Reply from 127.0.0.1 : bytes =32 time < 1ms TTL = 128
Ping statisticd for 127.0.0.1
Packets sent 4 , Received =4 , Lost = 0 (0% lost)
Aprrox round trip times in mili seconds
Min 0ms Max 0ms average 0ms

I Changed the subnet , ip ect but made no difference

I noticed i have to area connections
-Local Area Connections
Network cable unplugged
Marvell Yokon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCE gigabit Ethernet
-1394 connection
Is it picking up the wireless card ?

Thanks for your time so far

My mate had some major troubles with his network connection (wouldn't work full stop) on that shuttle until he upgraded the BIOS. Not sure if that would be affecting your wireless card but might be worth a try flashing it to the latest bios. Process is very simple with shuttles and the winflash program.

Will try and dig out the links for you.

Right found it.

Link for how to flash the bios to the latest version with the winflash utility (within Windows)

Link for the latest BIOS (for the SN95G5 v1). Also here is a revision history of the BIOS if you want to see what has changed (looks like they fixed some LAN issues in some of the revisions).

seems like your network cable isnt plugged in, is damaged, or an incorrect type.
could also be the router is faulty, or the network card is faulty.

also it seems the wifi card isnt installed?

1394 connection is your firewire. so ignore this completely!

The network cable is ok cause im on the net now
The router is ok cause the laptop is on the net

The card is new and is the correct one to the router and i have replugged it in .

go into device manager, is it flagging up any notifications (yellow or red marks) over any of your network devices? does the router light up on that port to say its got a connection? (the same light should go out if you unplug the pc your on now if your using the same cable to test the shuttle.
if its saying media disconected there must be a reason for this!

Only on network controller and usb2 (no service pack yet)

The router showing all the normal lights

Surely that would be the problem?

Have you installed the drivers for your ethernet card, or motherboard drivers if it's integrated?

I have tried the drivers from the shuttle website, if there the right ones or not though i have no idea, would this affect the wireless card ?

My mate could not get the onboard ethernet (even using the drivers off the shuttle website) to work without flashing to the latest BIOS (as I said in my previous post). However I'm not sure if this would be affecting your wireless pci card.

I recommend you look into flashing the BIOS with the winflash utility, it is not difficult to do (all done in Windows) if you follow the instructions (links posted above). Hopefully this will at least get your onboard working and maybe fix your wireless issues.

Flashed the bios yestarday , Was amazed at how easy it wasm something that always scared me doing to be honest ,

Would my best bet be to get a network card and run that from my desktop to her shuttle via the ethernet on the mobo ?

I tried a different driver for the wireless card and then it picked it up

Thanks for all your help in what seemed like something complex but was actually simple,
