HI, i am going to invest in a desktop PC for Uni and am really not sure on what to get, i know how to put a PC together but what to put in is another matter...i will be using it to mostly watch films via netflix and DVD's, as well as using Word-processing software, i also like playing football manager and minecraft as well as surfing the internet, i will need a monitor, speakers and windows 7 as well included in the £500

thank you :)

Something like this would be more than enough. Add a cheap gpu into it to play more demanding games. I think FM should run fine on this anyway without any additions.

Just grab any monitor/speakers to go with it.

thank you very much :)

i was looking at that anyway and was wondering what others would recommend, but if this is what you posted as well, may have to go for it :)

Not really. His system used for web browsing/FM/VLC player won't tax the ****** psu for it to break. He can easily add a cheap gpu you put anytime, since he didn't put anything demanding he'll be playing anytime soon. Like a sandybridge cpu needs an extended warranty.

All he needs to do is phone up sales and ask them to switch out the psu on the i3 system if he wanted extra system security/stability.

Have you ever used a cheap case before?

If he is playing football manager the GPU will help a lot.

Do you think motherboards never fail? If it fails after 2 years and is not a gigabyte or msi then you have no chance of a warranty replacement.

Also my build has dual channel ram.
