Closer than many think
We have seen people writing about the upcoming launch of Geforce 7-series desktop products, claiming that they won’t appear before CES 2014, but we got some information that the launch takes place by Computex 2013, in just a few months.

We don’t have a fix date but Nvidia has talked to some of its partners assuring them that they will have something new and hot to see as of May 2013. Computex 2013 starts in late May but Nvidia might launch its new graphics card generation a bit earlier.

They do want to address AMD’s aggressive bundle push and try to offer a more competitive product. Bear in mind that desktop sales still play an important role in Nvidia's financial statement. We don’t know much about the performance expectation but we do know that it is faster than what is out today.

At 28nm you cannot expect miracles, but next year Nvidia does have plans to move to 20nm graphics and put even more transistors on their graphics dies. Nvidia also wants to put pressure on new console sales, as now more than ever Nvidia wants to tell the world that PC gaming is the future.

Be interesting to see whats actually coming, Titan and the possible Titan LE (which personally I reckon they might rebadge as something like the 780) doesn't leave them much manouvering space on price and performance. Putting out something thats around Titan speeds or faster as a GTX780 and pricing it at around 400-500 would severely annoy people who'd bought Titan but theres not a huge performance space between the GTX680 and Titan to fit a new lineup into especially if they release a 2nd Titan SKU.

Titan is around 40-45% faster than a gtx680 which leaves plenty of space, especially if nvidia give the usual bump of around 15-20 percent. This leaves around 25% to fit in the titan le card.

Don't expect them to be any cheaper anytime soon, not until more people stop ponying up cash for them.

I'm a sucker for nVidia cards. Love the drivers, much more to tinker with.

15-20% is not the usual bump at all.

That would be the control panel rather than drivers. :p

If they want to offer a more competitive product, why not just give more competitive pricing? Their GTX680 is at worst £100 more then a competing 7970 and slower...surely they could save a few quid on promoting a new product by just slashing prices of the current range?

If the performance bump is only going to be 15-20% to the GTX780 then Nvidia will have a lot of questions to answer as that will still only have it at best 5-10% faster then an 18 month old 7970.

Tbh I expected Nvidia to wait for AMD to make the next move and work from that, especially if the 8970 tops a Titan.

Last gen gtx480-gtx580 was around 15-20% extra performance and the 5870-6970 was around 15% so i fail to see where its not the usual. They are staying on the same 28nm process so gains probably won't be huge.

You're right, but apart from AMD 5000-6000 / NVIDIA 400-500, there has generally been around a 30+ - 50% increase. I think the 7970 holds around an average of 40% performance boost over the 6970.

Yes but the 6970 was built on 40nm and the 7970 on 28nm. Usually when there is no move to a smaller manufacturing process the gains are much smaller e.g. amd x1800xt-1900xt or nv 7800gtx-7900gtx. The gtx780/8970 will be built using the 28nm process same as the gtx680/7970.

Realdeal wasn't making an inclusive to all statement, but a statement of the situation we're in (In regards to same fab), he's right, but could have been worded better.

* Could be wrong :p

EDIT : But stating "Nvidia's usual 15-20%" doesn't exactly make sense, as the 480-580 thing isn't the norm

Yea i was assuming people on here would know that the same 28nm process would be used for the gtx780/8970.

4890 was also around 15-20% faster than a 4870.

gtx480-gtx580 is the norm as its just a refresh on the same manufacturing process. It does differ from the old refresh method though as they probably would have called the gtx580 something along the lines of gtx485. Due to how slow die shrinks come around these days and slower refresh parts it makes more sense to call the refresh parts a new name to drum up interest in the cards.

Is this going to be the 7 series or something else?
From what they have posted it seems that they have equated " We don’t have a fix date but Nvidia has talked to some of its partners assuring them that they will have something new and hot to see as of May 2013 " to mean the arrival of the new lineup.
What if it something else, maybe the official announcement of the Titan LE.
Seems like nothing more than guesswork to me.
