Hi all, I’m out here in Australia visiting my brother , I have tried to update his PCs to Win 10. One is used as a workstation/ home server, the other as as HTPC unit.
I have have swapped the units around so that the most energy efficient cpu becomes the home server, but it is not entirely Win10 compatible and keeps freezing. ASUS M4A88TD-M is the mobo.
The other machine is an even older CPU , an Operton 165 that I gave him. Not sure yet if this is compatible with Win 10 or not. Installed it and still updating so too early to tell. But it is energy hungry and this was one of the things my brother wanted to change.
So it looks like I will need to buy a new rig now. I don’t have the time to source all new components, build etc. So looking for a prebuilt rig. But I am so out f date. This home server does the following jobs - emailing, run a Plex server and stream around the home, stream other stuff around the home. That’s it , no games or anything more demanding.
I can pick up an i3 or i5 8th Gen CPU. But it’s not me paying. Will i3 based workstation cope well with the above tasks? I know i5 definitely will , but $150 extra.
Appreciate the advice as I have little time before I return to UK
Thanks
