I've had my pc for a few years now, bought all the bits and put it together myself. It always had a problem every now and then with the monitor cutting out on boot-up and having to reset. Thought it was the monitor so replaced that but still happened, have since replaced the graphics card but still happened. As it only happened on bootup every now and then I just put up with it and let it go.
About 3 months ago I booted up and it would load up, come up with a mouse pointer but nothing else, no desktop or anything just a black screen with mouse pointer. Tried restore, Windows repair etc but nothing worked so I reinstalled Windows but this time it wouldn't even come up with the mouse pointer, just a black screen showed.
I bought a new hard drive and installed windows but the monitor would cut out more frequently now, sometimes it would cut out during bootup, other times it would all bootup and then randomly cut out while doing things and needed resetting. Then I started getting a message that windows had detected a problem with the hard drive, got the message more and more frequently, then had the same problem of booting up and having a black screen with mouse pointer.
I sent that hard drive back and got a replacement, got Windows installed eventually after several attempts where it cut out during installing Windows and it downloaded some updates but now it will boot up and get to 'configuring updates' then every time the monitor will cut out during it and need resetting and it never gets passed that point.
Any ideas a)why the monitor would keep cutting out/losing signal even though I've had 2 monitors and 2 graphics cards and b) whats causing the hard drive problems/windows loading to black screen?
I am starting to think it might be a power problem or a motherboard problem but I really have no ideas and not enough knowledge to work out whats happening.
The specs are (just copied from the invoice apart from the new graphics card and the new hard drive, so sorry if not enough info):
