Desktop replacement in the new year

Right so a bit of a context, I’m an engineering apprentice and I’ve been looking at getting a laptop for the last few weeks. Currently I have a desktop running a 5700xt, ryzen 3600xt and 16gb of ram with an ultra wide 1440p monitor. I do game most evenings when I can (call of duty, battlefield, forza, fifa, warzone) All things perfect, I would keep this set up. However I’ll be moving around over the next 3 years or so and would like something that I can use on the go, at college and would also be a suitable replacement for my desktop when Im home. I can connect to the monitor then, providing I keep it.

I’ve got my eye on the 14” Razer Blade just because it’s got a great form factor, very portable, not all in your face like a few other laptops out there and it’s a very well made system. I’ve heard story’s regarding battery swelling and the likes but it seems to be a lottery with that.

I just want to know what other people would suggest in the new year? Ideally no bigger than a 15 and if it is a 15 I don’t really want something you could use to weigh a dead body down with.

any suggestions would be appreciated

cheers

Am guessing your looking for a gaming laptop? The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 could be another good one if you dont plan to sell it. If you plan to sell the laptop in the future a macbook pro would suffice due to its high resellability. As for battery swelling some laptops works without the battery, so when you game, just pull it out and use the mains.

Honestly I’ll probably end up keeping it and and potentially building a new pc in 4 years or so. Just depends where work takes me honestly. As for the Macbook. I would but I am after a gaming laptop that’s highly portable hence why I was looking at the Razer blade 14. I’ll take a look at the ROG ZEPHYRUS 15 and see what I think. There’s just a lot of different things to take into consideration. Honestly didn’t know there was different wattage for gpu’s which is probably where I went wrong when I first got a laptop a few years ago? Anyway thank you for the suggestion.

What are the thoughts on the msi GS66 stealth 3080? 16gb vram, 95w TGP and QHD. All in a case that’s under 20mm thick and weighs about 2kg. Would this be something that would tower over something like that razer blade 14 or even 15? Unsure on build quality and things like that of the msi

The MSI GS66 stealth 3080 is not bad, the fan tends to get loud when gaming and the inbuilt speakers are not that great.

The only thing i will be worrying about is the coil whine from what i researched; the Razer Blade 14 and the ROG ZEPHYRUS 15 does have it but am not sure about the MSI.

As for thickness its around 3mm thicker than the razer blade 14/15 so i wouldn't worry about it as its a gaming laptop.
