Desktop software for old laptop

I am about to purchase an old P3 laptop. It will only ever be used for word processing, using Word, Note pad and the like.

Can i still buy something like windows 98 or 2000. This computer will never go onto the internet to upgrade or patch, it will simply be used as a type writer.
