Hi

I currently have an Acer desktop pc which is used mainly for checking emails, internet, photos, basically all basic stuff.

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to downsize from a desktop to a laptop.

I cant remember the last time I used the cd drive as we download most stuff now.

I would like something that is fairly powerful and with a big screen as it would not be moved around much anyway.

Has anyone got any recommendations, I was thinking about a macbook pro?

I use MS office a fair bit as well.

any advice, would it be wise to downsize so to speak?

cheers

What size is your current monitor? Do you need the portability of a laptop?

For your usage, if you really needed to go for a laptop, I'd just look for a 17" Windows laptop. Or look for a used 17" MBP.
If not, I'd just stick with what you've got!

Cheers guys, I'm actually thinking about an imac as well, just seen that new 27" 5k imac on Apple.

I know i pay a premium with Apple but they look so sleek.

Have to have a think, not in any rush.

Macbook pro with external monitors, keyboard and mouse.

I don't use my i7 desktop anymore (I do run Windows on my mbp though).

That's not a bad shout. However, another alternative is a Microsoft Surface Pro 3, with dock and external monitors. I think that would still be cheaper and for £1,000 you get a well specced machine, plus you can use it as a tablet too.

I've just bought an SP3, it arrives Monday, hopefully I'll be impressed.

Good luck mate, the SP3 looks really nice. Just get an external keyboard as the screen cover keyboard combo was a bit poor for extended typing sessions.

That sounds like a good option to me. I have a MBP but very tempted by Surface Pro 3 and a dock ...

I use 15" MBP Retina with external Dell display, keyboard and mouse.
As long as you have it on charge, it will wake from sleep when closed with the above attached and the built-in screen stays off.
