Hey guys, I've come into some spare money and I want to spend it on something I'll use for once rather than something that in 6months will be sat in a draw going unused.

My rig's specs are...

Antec 1200
i7 2600K @ 4.8 - With the Corsair H70 Cooler
Asus P8P67 Deluxe Mobo
1 x 290
2 x 4gb RAM
1 x OCZ SSD
5 x Sata HDs

I haven't paid attention to new tech or anything for quite a while since I posted on here about wanting to upgrade my graphics card which was a few months back.
Any upgrades to be made that won't be just minor? If there isn't anything I think I'll start saving for a gaming laptop.

Thanks :)

Hey RJC, yea I couldn't think of any improvements.

The 290 runs at 2560x1600 just fine with games like FarCry 3 etc.

I guess I'll just leave it for now until my 290 starts struggling.

How are SSDs doing these days? My OCZ is one from back in 2011 and I did originally have two of the same but one went kaput.

SSD's are much better especially avoiding the older OCZ. Have a look at the Samsung ones. Maybe if your happy with your GPU performance you could look into Raid 0 on two larger capacity SSD's and move allot of your data across.

Maybe just a new case for something different and a change. There are some lovely looking cases out there.

Or maybe look into gaming at higher Hz on a new monitor (assuming you are not on your TV) You could push your rig with Crossfire 290's and a 144Hz at 1440p.

Other than that you are all good to go then.

Greetings fellow Oxfordian.

Would I see more an improvement if I put the OS on some Raid 0'd ssds or my programs?

For day to day use? Nope, you won't notice much difference.

Does your system feel sluggish? If so maybe try a format see if that rejuvenates the system, failing that get a new SSD. If your system is working ok then just save yourself the money and put it towards a future upgrade when broadwell/skylake is out.
