Desktop vs Laptop TFT

Howcome laptop TFT screens are capable of higher res at smaller screen size than their desktop counterparts?

20" Widescreen TFT maxes out at 1680x1050, whereas a 15.4" laptop TFT is capable of the same.

The laptop being 33% less in screen size.

Probably less costly to cram more pixels in than build a bigger display? More mobile that way?

then why dont we have massive resolutions on our desktop......because they assume we sit a lot further back than we do with laptops and our eyes wont be good enough?

never understood why 20" and 22" have the same res as well (sure someone will let me know!)

actually, you can get 1920x1200 15.4" laptop screens now

I think its just because we sit closer to laptops than to montors.

Also who would buy a 20" 1920x1200 when you could get a 24" 1920x1200 for virtually the same price?? With Monitors if you want a higher res, you buy a larger monitor. But with a Laptop you're not going to want a larger size screen so they cram the required res onto the smaller screen.

Thats my guess anyway!
