dunno where this thread really belongs but as there are plenty of gadget heads on here i thought general section was the best.

just wondering what is the best desktop weather station out there at the moment?

i have £100 to spend on one and it needn't have all the extra wind/rain sensors although 1 outdoor sensor would be preferable. some have software that sync to you computer to create a database (i'm a trainee teacher and prediction is a key requirment of the NC standard Sc1, what better thing to predict than the weather - you never know one of the kids may get it right!)

i've seen a few on the net that i have in mind

for example THIS one

so if any one has any experience with them then any advice is thanks in advance!

i'm one of those people that when they were young used to sit and watch a summer storm brewing etc. so i've got a thing for the weather. plus with me being a geography specialist in a primary school, the weather is great thing to use at the beginning of the day.

you can ask the children:
- what the weather is like today?
- what the weather is like tomorow (makes them watch the news search on internet)
- why the weather is acting like it is (age specific this question as you can get some very funnt answer when asking how thunder forms. the debate is strong - elephants o dinosaurs :P )

that lacross one looks awesome i just don't kow where i could put the anemometer as it it needs to have unrestricted airflow and living i the middle of lincoln there are varying size houses all around buffetting the wind.

thanks for looking!

gonna browse that site now and post back any other ideas!

Cyzmyassbaby: they are cool gadgets, i had a cheap one from aldi or summats and it was pretty good and predicting for a £20 thing.

just gone for the one at £89, have no place for the other bits on the more expensive one plus i prefer the layout of the displays!

I've just recently put a weather station up at my school/college.

It's part of the GLOBE Project and it supplied free by Northumbria Water.

It's an awesome piece of kit. The software sits on a dedicated workstation and uploads all the data to the project website.

This is the sort of stats it shows...

btw, the station itself is a Davis Instruments - Vantage Pro.

Will look into this gadget nice one thanks, looking to beat my 39lb 6oz record from last year.

we also use a davis weather station at work. ive fitted the data logger module to it, and hooked it upto a computer which then takes the data, and puts it on our intranet (so the ships captains know the weather at the port). ive written a script that also keeps all the historic data for our claims department too. the basic kit goes for about 450quid so its a lot more then you specified really... but it is a good piece of kit
