I had posted a thread a few days ago but had no luck. I am really struggling here guys. I am trying to find a cooler to find a certain motherboard for someone, but it is a HP and they are using smaller mounting holes as RJC mentioned was a possibility they could be doing. I have tried buying an Alpine 11 cooler and its the correct socket but the holes are just too small. So now I need to find a cooler that fits. This is the same motherboard on Ebay that another person is selling, if you zoom in you can see how small the holes are.

I am building this old system for someone and have promised them I will find something that fits, but seriously my head is wrecked now with this. Doe's anyone know a cooler that will fit on? whatever goes through the mounting holes has to be really thin. Sorry again for posting this in the general hardware section but I am on the verge of giving up here.

Thanks, I hope someone can help. :(

What is wrong with the cooler you purchased? The 775 sockets are all the same so this should fit which makes sourcing a cooler harder. All 775 fixtures will be the same.

Haven't been able to find anything compatible.

So you're looking at getting a different motherboard.

So.. nothing to lose from trying to make the holes bigger... with a bit of force?

@ snipe The holes are too small as i said. They are not all the same mate, HP and Dell bring out boards with smaller holes sometimes, god knows why.

@ billy Getting a new board for him isn't an option unfortunately. There must be a cooler that fits somewhere surely? and i don't want to damage the board mate, it's more than a little bit of force needed believe me i tried.

Can't you just use smaller mounting screws? Are they standard spacings?

Hes an old guy billy and he won't change it. The mounting screws for this are plastic kinda like raw plugs that push through in each corner and then black plastic pieces push in to hold it in place. Not sure what to do with this. Damn you HP and your cheapo parts lol

Use your imagination son. They come with nuts to attach.

You're going to have to bodge it one way or another.

Sorted the cooler eventually, but have had problems with the temp going up and down constantly. Reseated a few times with no luck. Eventually i have given up on it. Sent him elsewhere. Arghhh pcs
