Hi all.
I've got a massive problem. I've just got 2nd hand from Fleabay 2X1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR sticks, and the PC will not boot with them in.
Tried everything, CMOS reset, booting with 1 stick,
but PC will not boot.

Any advice?

TIA

Andy

you tried 1 stick, and in all slots ?
given the failure rates on the ballistix, buying them from the bay is not a good idea, hopefully if the sticks are bad the seller might take em back or you have to contact crucial for replacement.

with my experiance with ballistix, they go in straight on auto settings, did'nt need to touch the sub timings.

Mmmm, Ballistix. PC4000 sticks are they?

Double check your bios settings/reset bios if needed (I know, you can't).

Some sticks of this ram is known to be rubbish and tends to fail. 'Maybe' i's faulty. Best to ask the seller to confirm this.

When you say it won't boot, will it at least pass the POST part so that you could run MemTest from a floppy? Or does it not even do that?

Thanks guys.

I've tried everything I (think).

One stick in one socket (both sticks), different voltage (2.8 MAX)
low timings/speed etc......

Seller is 100% posative they left his machine working, but is happy to refund, or get new ones via Crucial warranty.

Thanks for the advice,

Andy

I noticed you have an ASUS A8N-SLi - I have the same board and I had quite a few problems with memory initially. Same symptoms, would not post. I eventually got it working with 2GB of generic no name DDR400.

Crucial memory had never failed me before then, and has never since. Just this one time and this one board. Made me think twice when I bought my new board, decided to go DS3 Gigabyte instead.
