Hi guys just installed this Asus Xonar Xense Sound Card + Sennheiser PC 350 Xense Edition Headset and I am getting nothing from the mic ive reinstalled the drivers but its the same can not use the mic in mumble ect. Can anyone help please?

My guess is that the sound card is looking to the front audio header for the microphone. There is no auto detect, so it only uses the port that is selected. Common sense would say that the rear main socket should be the default up on installation. Not always the case though, for whatever reason.

Anyway: Go to Windows sound properties; then recording devices. Go to 'Microphone Xonar Xense' and click on the properties button. Then go to the custom tab in microphone properties. You should see three tick boxes. 'Front mic', should be unticked.

In the case of the other guy, in the linked thread; it would seem there is more going on than just telling the sound card which socket to use for the microphone.

Interesting. I'm guessing you haven't connected the front audio header? That would explain why it doesn't appear in the options. I wasn't aware that by not connecting the front audio header, the option to select 'frontmic', would not be in there at all. I thought it would be there, regardless. Obviously not.

Anyway; that doesn't matter really, as that can't be the reason for the microphone not working. Must be some other reason. Shall have to go and have a think. :o

Sorry if this is too obvious, but have you checked the mic input is active/checked under the 'record' tab in the mixer panel in xonar audio centre?

Ah, just noticed something. I didn't look at the fist picture you posted, properly; only the second one. In the recording properties, I notice 'front mic' and 'microphone' are separate devices. Normally, at least in the case for the Xonar's I have owned, they just come under the one 'microphone' device. Obviously it's been changed it with the Xense, and maybe other newer Xonar cards.

You have 'front mic' set as default. If you are not using the front audio header. i.e. the audio sockets on the front of your case, then you want to select 'microphone' for the Xense. Only problem is, it displays that as unavailable. This was the problem the other guy had. It displayed 'microphone' as unavailable, even if the microphone was connected.

Uncle Petey, might have a point there. The microphone connection the card is using, might need to be selected in the Xonar CP. It should be linked the the Windows sound options though. So, if you enable 'front mic' in the Xonar CP, it will also be enabled in Windows sound properties. If you disable it in the Xonar CP, it becomes disabled in Windows. At least that how it works with my DG and Essence. The Xense it would seem, is slightly different.

Strange, very strange. In the screen you have on the right; the little spanner next to the eye where the front mic slider is. What options do you get, if any.

Hmm ok. DG and Essence have microphone or front mic options. I wonder if the Xense is just different in the way they have done that, or whether it's a change across the board for Xonar cards. Haven't updated drivers for while. Might be an idea for me to do that, see if anything has been changed.

Just had a look on another forum. Some guy had the same problem, but with a DG. Mircophone is displayed as unavailable, just as yours is. He fixed with the 'front mic' tick box, unticked. He spend ages messing about, because the selection of rear or front microphone is hidden. As the saying goes, 'easy when you know how'. :p

Obviously though, in your case, there is no tick box. Not that I can tell. Damn Asus, why did they have to do it differently!

Anyway, I'll try new drivers later on, as I say, and see if anything has been changed, or whether it's just that the Xense, is different. :)

Thanks m8 yeah can not find any box to get rid of the front mic why its showing up I have no clue as said before that cable isnt even plugged in its really getting on my nerves now lol and the ASUS forums have been usless not one single reply.

There haven't been driver for updates for the DG or Essence cards for 1.5 years on Asus' site. So it seems that the Xense CP is just a little different from the other Xonar cards.

I've been looking at the manual, and there in 'record' there are two microphone sliders; one 'front mic' and one 'microphone'. From what I can gather; you are suppose to select one or the other, using a selection button below the slider. The question is: Why is only the front mic one showing on your CP, and not the one for microphone?

Which Windows are you using?

Edit: Doh! Microphone is there in the screen shot you provided. It's in a different location, and not next to 'front mic', so I must have missed it. Looking at it again, looks like you already got 'microphone' select; denoted by the red selection button. What about selecting the front mic one, see what happens?
