right this is a post from a desperate man.

my mobo just died a sudden death and i need to buy a new one. need to get my machine up and running fast as i use it for business.

i see there are hardly any socket 939 mobos out there any more so i'm just wondering if i should upgrade completely. i've been onn amd for my last 2 builds, but i'm wondering if i should switch to intel. they seem to be in the lead now (is this correct??).

also, i am a real performance junkie so if i upgrade i want the best.

if i go for amd i will go for the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core FX62 2.80GHz (Socket AM2) and get a mobo and ram to match (although i haven't yet checked out what ram or mobo i'd need for this.

if i go for intel then i haven't got a clue what i need. this looks like the best cpu

Intel Core 2 Quadro Extreme Edition QX6700 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

but i dunno what ram i need for this (although i'd guess has to be ddr2).

anyway, someone want to tell me if i am now better going for intel.

and whichever is best - tell me what cpu, mobo, and ram would make a monster system. it needs to be pci express by the way, although i am sure they all are now (sorry about this but i haven't been keeping up to date on hardware).

by the way i will for the moment be keeping my gfx card which is a BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express), so i would like the rig to be compatible with this.

hope you can help

cheers :D

i can spec a system, but this time im in a tearing hurry.

however, i found some other "spec me a system" threads so probably just going to copy them.

do i know what i'm doing?? sometimes yes, sometimes no. they usually boot though

We are always like that sometimes mate :)

maybe with this rig i will.

with my 2 previous amd systems i fought and fought to overclock but my cpu would not play. check out my previous posts (although i don't know how long this forum keeps them for).

christ i tried. read more guides than you could shake a stick at.

good to know its not just me.

basically when i'm going to build a machine i read up lots and pretty much know what i need.

but always in the past i just planned to upgrade. this time my great and fast computer was working one minute, and dead the next. did all diagnostic steps and came to the inescapable conclusion that me epox mobo was very very dead, and i can't do everything i need to on the laptop so this is a panic buy.

but the positive of it all is it's given me an excuse to get myself a new rig :D :D :D
