Hi guys,

I'm trying to set up a new unmanaged Linux VPS which I have purchased in order to migrate over a single wordpress site I currently have on shared hosting.

To make matters more confusing I have registered a new domain name which I need to point to the new server and the wordpress site icne it is migrated.

Although I'm normally very good at wading through documentation and figuring things out through trial and error, it's clear that I am in completely over my head with this one. :(

I also need to install Apache mod_php/memcached and nginx as per an 'optimizing wordpress' article I have.

Anyway, what I was hoping is that there is some kind soul out there willing to help me with this for a fee. I am quite happy to pay half upfront and half upon completion via paypal.

If anyone is interesting in lending a hand, please let me know.

A dedicated VPS just for one site seems a bit overkill if you ask me.

You need to change the DNS settings on the domain to point at the IP of the VPS. This will be the @ and www records. Do this with whoever you registered the domain with.

Not sure what you are trying to achieve by the "optimisation" of WP - you might be better to use a WP plugin like WP Super Cache.

Unless the site is HUGE then WP should run like a dream as long as you don't go made installing plugins.

Happy to help if you need - email in trust if you need to.

Oh I completely agree.... However the reasons are very good. Within six months there will be a huge B2B web app on the server running from a wordpress front end for easy blog updates. etc... kind of hard to explain but without going into details but the usage will be very high. With the deals we have we will need dedicated hosting by this time next year. But this VPS should suffice for now.

I'll drop you an email mate... cheers :)

Are you running cPanel?

If not what OS are you running as the installation of Apache etc.. can be slightly different.

It's running CentOS, both cPanel and Apache are already installed. Also I seem to have managed to get the new domain name pointing to the correct ip as when I ping it it returns the new servers ip address.

As for how to get apache to listen correctly.... way over my head.

I've also managed to get memcached installed as well as (i believe) the memcached php extension.

I'm also nearly done copying over the wordpress installation files into the public_html folder on the new server. However I will of course have to do some messing about in the wp-config and .htaccess files.

My mind is exploding lol...

Its easy with cPanel/WHM. Look for EasyApache link on the left. You can select what you want to install ie memcache.

I would also do an Initial Configuration top left of WHM to set correct Nameservers/DNS/Mailserver etc...

It would have been easyier to do a Fresh Install of Wordpress then export the data to XML from your other blog and then import it.

Thanks for the advice mate, much appreciated. Another member of OcUK is doing all the dirty work for me now so I should be fine.

Cheers!
