I have a 5770 1gb. It was with a M4A78-VM/4GB DDR 2/550 be but I have now upgraded to a Z68 PRO3/8gb DDR3/i5-2500k however the issue has remained with the GPU so this is clearly the problem.

If booting with the Mobos onboard graphics there is no issue so it is a GPU problem.

Basically, when I boot 50% of the time the display will not come on. The monitor LED is blue ie it is on and if I type my password in and press enter it goes to the desktop and I see the wallpaper but nothing on it, so it is booting and it is registering my GPU but it's like it is not fully launching or something.

The other half of the time it runs fine, although it takes quite a while to change from a cursor on a black background to the windows login screen.

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, rolling back, updating drivers in a myriad of combinations. I have also triple checked all the connections (they are solid) and re-seated the GPU but to no avail. Again, the connections/monitor cables are fine as it boots repeatedly with no display issue when using the mobo graphics.

I have been tearing my hair out with this for months and months now and cannot figure out the problem. I will be upgrading the GPU in a few months however as it stands right now I have to restart the PC using the reset button when it gives me the blank screen and repeatedly doing this is obviously not good.

Please help! Anybody who can figure this out will be a life saver!

The PSU is functioning perfectly well with all the other components. What are you suggesting the PSU issue may be that could cause this problem?

I do not have another PSU, nor do I have a friend nearby with a desktop PC so now chance of testing it on another rig.

I have flashed a mobo bios before successfully. How would I flash the bios of my GPU? Does AMDs website have the software+infomation?

Thanks for the help guys.

None of the other components draw as much power as the graphics card. My first thought would have been to test the PSU as well.

It's a shame you can't get to another system to test, as has been said you can use a multimeter or you can get a PSU tester, unfortunately unless you can borrow either then it's going to cost.

I would only try flashing as a last resort after ruling out the PSU and if the card is out of warranty, as it may well be hardware and not the firmware that is the problem . Here is a guide on flashing a GPU
