I have a 5770 1gb. It was with a M4A78-VM/4GB DDR 2/550 be but I have now upgraded to a Z68 PRO3/8gb DDR3/i5-2500k however the issue has remained with the GPU so this is clearly the problem.

If booting with the Mobos onboard graphics there is no issue so it is a GPU problem.

Basically, when I boot 50% of the time the display will not come on. The monitor LED is blue ie it is on and if I type my password in and press enter it goes to the desktop and I see the wallpaper but nothing on it, so it is booting and it is registering my GPU but it's like it is not fully launching or something.

The other half of the time it runs fine, although it takes quite a while to change from a cursor on a black background to the windows login screen.

I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling, rolling back, updating drivers in a myriad of combinations. I have also triple checked all the connections (they are solid) and re-seated the GPU but to no avail. Again, the connections/monitor cables are fine as it boots repeatedly with no display issue when using the mobo graphics.

I have been tearing my hair out with this for months and months now and cannot figure out the problem. I will be upgrading the GPU in a few months however as it stands right now I have to restart the PC using the reset button when it gives me the blank screen and repeatedly doing this is obviously not good.

Please help! Anybody who can figure this out will be a life saver!

Well as you have changed motherboard and tested everything else I would say it is your graphics card.

RMA it or get a new one and stop tearing your hair out!

Trust your instincts

RMA = Return Materials Authorization (or at least that's one of two definitions I've read now). Useful for when hardware fails to work when still within warranty.

means returning it to the maker as it is usually under a 2-3 year warranty in europe depending on your board maker.

They will test it and send you a replacement if it is faulty, which it is.

This process is usually started by asking for RMA authorisation from the maker tech support via e-mail.
