After playing the Crysis demo I have decided I want a new PC to play the full game on. I have spec'd up this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 "LGA775 Conroe" 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail (£169.19)
Asus P5K-E WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£99.86)
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-6400C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ) (£129.24)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 2900 Pro SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 VIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (21119-00-40R) (£164.49)
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK) (£68.14)

I already have 2x 500Gb hard drives (Using as RAID 1 atm). Is this spec a good choice? Are all the components compatible and is it best to go for 2x2GB or go cheaper with 4x1GB?

I am an nvidia fan boy but I dont want to spend loads of money on the graphics card and this ATi one looks like a good deal.

Do I need a 3GHz CPU or should I save a few quid on a slower one? Any advice would be great, I am totally out of "whats hot". Oh and also dont want to overclock yet but might do in a year or so.

Pre-order the 8800 GT 512mb.

A friend of mine bought a 2900 PRO and OC'd it to like 800/2000 and it wasn't running Crysis very good on High with like 4x AA/AF.

Get the 8800 GT, you'll thank me later.

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) -OEM (£159.79)
Asus P5K-E WiFi Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£99.86)
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PQ PC2-6400C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ) (£129.24)
OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (176.24)

Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK) (£68.14)

Those would be my alterations. :)

cheaper and quad core

what OS you running and is it 32 or 64bit? cause 4gb wont work with 32bit, you'll only get 3.2.

do you need the wi-fi on the mbord? cause otherwise you could get one of the new ones that take ddr3 and ddr2 just to make it that bit more future proof.

edit, bugger by the time you write out your post two others have already beaten you.

^ Bang on. 4 gig is overkill, but hey if you've got the money to spend why not.

EDIT: I'd prefer the eVGA version of the 8800 GT though. 10 year warranty for the win.

I just went with what was in stock at the min, as there are 4 this second and they are going while they're hot. :) ...plus he said desperately need a new pc...

Thanks for the replies. Will be using Vista 64. Isn't quad core a bit pointless, I mean I am just going to be playing games, surfing and MSN? Also is the "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" less watts than the core 2 duo? I dont want to be spending a fortune on my leccy bill ;)

I swap the 2900 to the 8800GT then :) I dont need the wifi but I do want as many SATA ports as I can get, current board only has 4 and its not enough, I want atleast 6 internally. One last thing, the ram deffo compatibile with that motherboard, no known issues?
