Despite my rig, performance isn't there

Hello.

Easy scenario for me, i have (what i think) to be a top end "rig" (i could br wrong) but i still suffer performance problems on most things that i should be able to run, games included. What could be causing it?

Some of the problems, but not all
  • Stuttering in games
  • Lagging/glitches in Photoshop
  • Firefox crashes

My rig
  • Corsair Spec-03 Case
  • Intel Core i7 3770 3.4ghz 3.9ghz Turbo (Not overclocked)
  • MSI GTX 980 4GB DDR5 (Not overclocked)
  • 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM 2 x8GB
  • Corsair CX750 Power Supply
  • x4 WD Black 1TBs (For storage)
  • x1 120GB SSD (Only has Windows installation on)
  • x1 Portable Samsung M2 2TB External HD (For storage)
  • x1 23" 1080p 60hz LG IPS LED Monitor

What could be the issue?

First thing I personally would do is,

• Make sure motherboard BIOS is upto date
• Check SSD for firmware updates (what SSD is it?)
• Do a fresh reinstall using latest drivers.
• Monitor CPU+GPU temps during use.

Bios is up to date, i checked that yesterday
SSD Not sure how to update the firmware, its a Crucial MX100
Already done a fresh install of W8
CPU temps seem to stay under 35c-40c at idle and around 60 under load
GPU is around 38c idle and no more than 63 under load.

I would try removing the graphics card and run the onboard to rule that out, then remove the storage drives and rule them out one by one, try both sticks of ram one at a time.

Just try and rule out all the components causing a problem if ya can.

You usually go into the motherboards bios, look around the memory section, look for the XMP option and choose the profile (there is data on the RAM that the board reads to set the speed/timings/voltage up to the rated RAM specs) then save+exit.

If unsure you can download CPU-Z and post up a picture of the SPD+memory tab.

CPU-Z SPD + Memory tabs..
