Well, it would appear that I may have to buy a second hand TFT monitor as I sure as hell know how to pick a lemon from new.

First of all, I liked the Samsung Pebble 22" TN based screen.

Fast response, No dead pixels, I could live with the limited viewing angles (as it is TN film,) however I couldn't live with the terrible back light bleed, ever so noticable when gaming in the dark,

RMA'd ( not OCUK)

It seems it is a regular occurence in this screen:

Then I hit upon the idea that TN film may be prone to this sort of thing, as well as the whole S & A / CMO panel lottery thing, so nothing really appealed in the 22" sector.

Then I saw the rave reviews of the OCUK 24" and with it being a VA based panel I thought lets 'ave it !

Alas that too has ended in RMA as it has a backlight uniformity issue that several others are now finding.

So, Unless there is a 22" / 24" non TN based panel out there that is well made and will look like it should with zero backlight bleed and good uniformity whilst still being 5ms or faster, that is available from the shelves or e-tailers (with a Zero dead Pixel pledge) then I think I will keep my money and keep an eye out for a good used one.

Unless that is anyone knows of such Monitor heaven in existance ? ?:p

Sigh... this 19" Hyundai is looking more and more like a poor relation to a TFT lol

A mate of mine just bought the new dell 24" and it superb. I have two 2007WFP's and I am gobsmacked at how much better his looks :/

I've never owned an LCD screen with zero backlight bleed, including two PVAs, two S-IPSs and three TNs. On the plus side though I've never had a dead pixel :)

For gaming in the dark I recently bought a 21" Dell CRT to put next to my Dell 2007WFP LCD.

hahhaa....and yeah I understand there will be a degree of bleed, but these are worse than my old 19" Hyundai TFT....I thought the technology would have moved on in three years...clearly not.

Maybe I shouldn't go sniper so much :D

the most noticeable thing i can see is that bright blue power switch! i have a 226bw and altho there is some bleed around the top it is def not worth getting my pants in a twist. only ever notice it during the opening/ending of films, never ingame!

but yes, you're gonna have to cough up or turn a light on...

benq fp 241w lcd, forget the new dell hc it suffers from ghosting which is very dissapointing i got the benq and its absolutely first class

Stop buying cheap monitors then. If you want zero imprefections, you need to pay professional prices.

I wouldn't call £200 - 400 the cheap end of the market, but I know what you mean.

I guess if something seems too goog to be true, it very often is !

The problem is that the same panels are used in loads of different monitors so it also limits your choice. From a quick search I found that the same panel I have in the OC 24 is also used in the in the following monitors:

BenQ FP241W 6ms G2G 24"WS AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0)
BenQ FP241WZ 6ms G2G + BFI 24"WS AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0)
LG L245WP 8ms G2G 24"WS AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0)
BenQ FP241VW 6ms G2G + BFI 24"WS AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0)
LG L245WPM 8ms G2G 24"WS AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0)
LG L246WP 8ms G2G 24"WS AU Optronics P-MVA (M240UW01 V0)

I would try one more OC 24" as a replacement to see if you can get better backlight uniformity as people have compared them to dell/samsung and have said they OC is better.

I think you should get a CRT! Seriously! I don't think you'll find a panel over 19' with the features you want.

hmmm just been looking at that....nice screen...any ghosting in games ??

I have a 2407WFP-HC, been playing a lot of Crysis, Call of Duty 4 and Virtua Tennis 3 and I have seen no ghosting at all. I have even tried looking for it and I cannot see any.

It's a brilliant LCD, go for it I say

Indeed, these monitors are consumer grade screens, manufactured to a price. 200-400 is cheap. Monitors made to be quality are 500, 1000, 2 grand +. Check out some of the Eizo monitors if you want image quality, and build quality, gauranteed.

Thing is, 99% percent people are perfectly happy with their el cheapo monitors, and don't notice a difference of 1% in lighting between top an bottom. I mean the TN panels We have here at work (benq) are cheap and the vewiwing angles are terrible. But they were only about 80 quid. You pays your money...
