Decided to detail my car this lunchtime because I was getting fed up with all the scratches and swirl marks in the paint.

Don't have a portapolisher so started with a high quality clean cloth, in this case the oily rag out my toolbox:

Went over the drivers side of the windscreen a few times and boy what a difference it made. I can see out and everything. Amazing the difference it has made on that 50 year old piece of glass:

Decided to go against the advice on forums that I had heard about McGuaiars's polish and settled for a good mouthful of gob on the bonnet. The acid in spit has a slight cutting action and cuts through the grime really well:

I used a rough scrubbing movement back and forth to lift the muck out the paint then turned the cloth over and polished out. The results are quite noticeable, I don't need to tell you which is before and after:

From inside the car the difference is astonishing:

Next up was the chrome work:

Who am I kidding, that's NEVER going to shine up. Or so I thought:

Inside I gave the carpets a good hoover out, they were filthy:

Oh wait, I'm mistaken, I don't have any carpets.

Outside I got on with the wheels. Before:

Couldn't bring myself to wipe this little baby off:

Up top the roof panel had started to lift from driving so fast. A couple of whacks with the rubber end of the jack handle took it from looking like this:

to this:

You can hardly see this water mark now:

And WoW look at this panel, so smooth:

Here's the finished item:

That was shot in Tesco carpark on my Canon EOS350D with kit lens at ISO200 1/60 sec f/5.6

Token badboy closeup shot:

Notice I took the roofrack off to save me some mpg's and to add a bit to the top end. She's gonna fly now. The rack has done almost no damage to the roof at all, testiment to the quality of the design:

Any interior pics Jonny?

Headlining is a bit neater now I figured out how it fits in the window rubbers :)

That single windscreen wiper doesnt look wholly effective!
Single vacuum operated wiper and yes it's not very good but it works :D Don't know who fitted the second wiper point but it doesn't belong there and it's not connected.

Lets just say with the engine I built it's a pretty wild ride. I'd need to have a damn quick crazy handling modern motor to deliver the same driving experience and I'd have to be going a lot faster to do the same things I do in this :)

The OP's post is a ****take as a result of a previous thread on this forum, which is still on the front page. It conveys his thoughts on the matter :)
Woah easy there! It was a light hearted dig and most people saw the funny side of it :)

If anyone is sad it's me for spending my whole lunchtime in Tesco's car park. For the record I own a sander/polisher and it was probably more expensive than most of the ones on here, so there you go, it's out :D
