detecting duplicate files

I've got a massive folder with thousands of PDF's, is there a way to see if there are duplicates in sub folders or if files have very similar names? I could it it manually but if theres an application which will point them out?

there are so many free programs out there for this mate, just google 'Free duplicate file checker'

I think I used one called easy duplicate finder once, but to be honest they are pretty much all the same.
