Deterioration in standard of driving

I was about to mention Cyprus, the Cypriots idea of driving is quite scary compared to the U.K. although they do have far more visible traffic enforcement (police patrols, speed traps etc) than we do, we seem to put speed cameras up everywhere that’ll generate a profit and leave it at that, I’d far rather see cameras near schools, residential areas and the like instead just after a 60 limit drops to 40....

Other than for an incident/accident you simply don’t see patrol cars out and about in the U.K. and a lot of the muppets tend to drive accordingly to this....

Yeah it's a world of it's own, the driving is slower though and most people don't care about scratches on their car.

I left my handbrake off in a supermarket once, and my car rolled into the supermarket branded car. So I went in to tell the manager, he came out and just buckled laughing and told me not to worry about it. His almost new car had half the bumper missing!

Come to rural France and watch people park at supermarkets and shopping centres. Parking by touch is a thing here.

I drive a bus and driving standards have never been lower. I blame the reliance on speed cameras over traffic policing.

I mean I think it would be more exciting if it was the case you were suggesting...

I'll hold my hands up. Since lockdown I'm doing less than 100 miles per month and I've become rusty behind the wheel. On a couple of occasions now, on the tiny journeys I'm now doing, I've arrived at the shops or wherever and noticed that my nearside mirror is still angled at the floor, from when I reverse parked onto the drive. So obviously my observation has become poor.

I'm sure many people who frequent the motors forum are doing much less miles. Has your driving standard deteriorated or are you still the epitome of motoring excellence?

Be honest!

Mine has been deteriorating for the last 35 years!

A lot more frustration and anger on the roads recently, I actually feel it's gotten worse during this year.

I drive my gf car often when I am home and it's a small purple car and I am regularly bullied on the roads with it :) people just pulling out on me, driving right up behind me.

A few month back just driving off of our street someone came right up behind me, so I just pulled over to let them past because I couldn't be bothered, only for them to get in front of me and then just stop in the middle of the road, I could see he was raging in the car shouting all sorts... I can't help but laugh but that always makes it worse, I mean I was happy if he wanted to throw a few jabs at my windscreen or side window, unless he was the terminator doubt anything would happen.

But anyway, yes a lot more simmering anger on the roads.
My mate used to drive an old style Ford KA, obviously seen by many as a girls car.

It was towed once while we were working an all nighter event in Birmingham from a place that towing was no longer supposed to be in force.

The guy who took it got a big of a shock when 2 very tired angry doormen made it across town first thing on a Saturday morning to get the car back, he point blank refused to get out of his truck and just wound the window down enough to drop the keys out to us :D
