The card is (barely) above system requirements yet the game keeps CTD on start.
I tried the latest drivers but still no avail, do you guys have any suggestions?

Card looks older than the system requirements (AMD R9 290?) but what about the rest of system as I am sure recall some having a problem with old CPUs due to AVX or SSE?

minimum required card is an HD 7950.

According to Steam it requires:

MINIMUM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 (3 GB) or AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB)
RECOMMENDED
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 580 (8GB)

That would suggest it needs more VRAM on AMD cards for whatever reason

err... I just realized I'm an idiot and put the wrong game in the title. What I meant is Detroit: Become Human.

I recently bought Horizon Zero Dawn on Steam for my partner and had CTD issues using an 8GB RX580. With some googling, I fixed it by deleting some files from the folder in My Documents (sorry cannot remember the specifics, not sure it was just the "profile" folder orothers too) and changing the Windows 10 virtual memory setting to let computer decide instead of the fixed size I'd had in place for several years. Oh and turning off STeam Cloud saving.

"Optimise shaders" restarts every time the game loads and is on main menu, but that appears to be a common bug. On exiting now, a small error window comes up, but my partner can resume her saved game each time with no obvious issues.

Edit: Oops @ OP, that's my kind of trick! :D
