Haven't played this in ages, and I'm looking for a stop-gap until I can get my hands on CoD4, so I installed it earlier, but it doesn't work. :(

I had this problem before on this PC, and I just uninstalled it, and didn't try to fix it, but I'd quite like to play it this time. I can start the game up, and it gets to the menu screen, but the whole thing freezes. I can move the mouse, but can't click on anything, and the background part of the menu (spinning logo, isn't it?) stays stationery. Sometimes I can Ctrl+Alt+Del out of it, other times it needs a hard restart. It's the latest version (seems to be version 1.2 out of the box, and I can't find any newer patches) and I'm running new-ish drivers, having only built this PC in October. Haven't updated drivers since then, admittedly, so I'll probably hunt down some newer ones to see if that'll help, but I'm doubtful of that...anyone got any better suggestions?

Thanks in advance
tTz

Sorry i can't help you with your problem but would suggest you just play the original Deus Ex rather than the disapointing sequal.

That wasn't very constructive. :)

I've played Invisible War before, and while it's not as good as Deus Ex, it's a decent enough game on its own merits. Plus it's worth playing even just for the storyline, which is the main reason I play any game. Besides, I've done the original to death. :p

What OS are you using? If it is Vista then you might want to try running in XP compatability mode but according to Eidos it isn't technically supported so they might not offer much help.

It's just standard XP Home, 32-bit. I tried compatability mode with older versions of Windows, but that didn't get me anywhere. :o

I've not had much luck with a quick look about but one thing that was mentioned is that if you had something like Alcohol120 installed that might prevent the game working correctly due to the copy protection software used on the game disk. Now if you downloaded via Steam then I'm afraid I have no other ideas at the moment. :)

I'm not aware that I've got anything like Alcohol installed, it's not the kind of thing I've ever needed. Had a quick look at Add/Remove programs and I'm seeing nothing like that there. Unless it's Nero? I don't have time just now, but I'll mabe try uninstalling Nero tomorrow to see if IW starts working.

OK this might be assumed as an off topic question, but do you guys know if they are making a sequal to invisible war? The original was nice but they blew the game with the sequal.

Dunno how much this helps you but the quickest of Google searches brought me to this Wikipedia page and it looks like there will be a third installment. I personally didn't think Deus Ex 2 was all that bad, it's main problem was that it would always struggle to live up to it's forebear, if taken as an independent game it was ok.

They are indeed, and there's a teaser trailer floating around the net somewhere. I don't think Warren Spector is involved this time round though, is he? I saw a rumour somewhere that he might be asked back to work on it, but we all know what the internet can be like for wishful thinking, so I'd take that with a pinch of salt.
