So today I bought the game and eagerly waiting for months now only to be hit by installation problems! I have the pc version and it's on disc but still needs steam to install. However when I go to install it, everything goes well up until the point where it actually starts to install the game.

First of it installs stupidly slowly! I'm talking 1 hour and 45 mins to install the game from disc? That can't be right surely?!

Secondly it will freeze after awhile and ask for disc one again :? But there's only one disc?!

My only two hypothesis is either a dodgy disc or my cd/DVD combo drive is bust! I did notice Aswel when I put my disc in sometimes it would screech or give a scratching sound.. no damage to disc though thank god!

Tried cleaning the disc? I find that sometimes a brand new game disk will fail to read, almost as if there's some residue or something left on from the manufacturing process. Use a soft lint-free cloth and plain water, and wipe from centre to edge.

That's what I've opted to doing, I managed to install it half way before it crashed but steam saved those files so it's Downloading the rest now. Hopefully this will work!

Ill try that too and see if it helps at all. I've ordered a new optical drive Aswel from ocuk, the Asus one but with it being bank holiday I wont get it till Tuesday/Wednesday!

Sigh it's bank holiday monday so no deliveries till wednesday!

My steam keeps crashing too and for some reason when it does it will take make my games drive dissappear :S.

Anyway 10% left to download and i can game!

create a new folder on the desktop and copy the disks contents to the hdd (drag n drop)
If it copies over, its not the disk...

You used to beable to install from the hdd years ago when I worked for take2 tech support but if it requires Steam to verify, it might not let you do it, still worth a try though

I always installSteam Games from DVD like this

"Using Steam launch options to install retail games from disc

Log in to Steam and click on Library.
Right-click on the game, select Delete local content, and confirm.
Insert the first disc into your computer.
Close Steam (Steam > Exit).
Press Windows Key + R to open Run
In the Run window type:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Replace E: with the CD/DVD drive you are installing from if is not correct.
Replace C:\Program Files\Steam if your Steam installation is not in the default location.
Press OK. Steam will launch and ask you to sign in if you do not have your password saved. Your installation should continue from the disc. "
