Just went to play Deus Ex for the sake of naustalgia and on my pc, amd 64 3000, 2gb ram, x800 pro, its gone and got itself into overdrive. All the chars run around at 100 miles an hour, and in videos people talk so fast the voices dont catch up. Its impossable to play like this and nthe new patch didnt help. I cant find a game speed limiter anywhere.

Anyone know how to get it to a sensible speed?

Yup, there are a couple of ways that should work, just google the names...

Dosbox is probably a good start (I'm assuming Deus Ex will work under emulated DOS)

Moslo - basically slows your processor down.

its starnge cause I never had any problems with my old build, and amd barton 2500. and this cpu isnt a huge ammount faster

ahhh 'day'of'sex' as it was nicknamed , possiby the best fps ive ever played ...

wish i could find my disc , love to play it again .

yeah its damn fun. Actually made you decide what route you want to take. Blow a door up, pick the lock, hack the keypad or find the code.

Deus Ex is a windows game, not DOS,

I never had any issues trying to run it on my A64 machine under Windows XP. Have you patched it at all? That may help.

found these interesting snipits on the wiki site ,

Real world parallels

Although the story of Deus Ex is based on real world themes and events, a few fictional elements of the game world have seemingly spilled over into reality since the game's release in 2000.

During sections of the game where the New York skyline is visible in the background, the two towers of the World Trade Center are noticeably missing. Harvey Smith has explained that due to texture memory limitations, the portion of the skyline with the twin towers exists in the game's data files but had to be left out of the final game, with the other half mirrored in place of it. According to Smith, during the game's development, the developers justified the lack of the towers by stating that terrorists had destroyed the World Trade Center earlier in the game's storyline

Deus Ex
We just said that the towers had been destroyed too. And this was way before 9-11. Years. That's kind of freaky.

Deus Ex

In the game, it is mentioned that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has assumed counter-terrorism responsibilities. Shortly after September 11th, it was announced that FEMA would be assuming counter-terrorism responsibilities, as part of the Department of Homeland Security.

Some fans have also noted similarities between the anti-terrorist movement in the game, spurred by the Statue of Liberty bombing, and the post-9/11 "war on terror" in the real world. The sequel actually shipped with the tagline "The future war on terror" on the box art front.

and an interview with mr warren spector ;-

“Game stories suck. I mean, let’s just cut right to the chase. Game stories - game stories all suck. I mean, that was part of the reason why I called Deus Ex, Deus Ex. You know, “Deus Ex Machina”, it’s a literary criticism term for, like, really bad storytelling. At the time, you know, I said you know, if people pronounce it Deus Ex and they get it, then I’ve made a nice statement. And if they don’t get it, they’re going to mispronounce it “Do Sex”. I knew it; “Do Sex”. I figured, “hey, “Do Sex”, that works, they have to say the word “Sex” to buy my game – that’s alright!”

Best PC game ever :D

The illusion of freedom was great.

I loved taking my modified pistol all the way to the end game rather than use a machine gun / shotgun (or whatever) like most games force you to.

Great game. Especially sitting in that crevice overlooking the docked supertanker whilst picking people off with my modded sniper rifle.

Although, I can't wait for the hi-res pack to be released. It's geting there, slowly, but getting there.
