2. How can we have the Modem/Router Downstairs but also have one upstairs, we get no internet for the laptops downstairs and its annoying cause I wanna play on wired connection upstairs :) Plus theres only one phone line. :D

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes. Attenuation of 44 db should give a much better speed than 768 kbps.

According to Kitz you should be seeing 6 Mbps on ADSL and 7.5 Mbps on ADSL2+.

Your Noise margin should be around the 7db level. It looks like you have a very high margin for some reason. It could be that you've had, or are still having, line stability issues and the sync speed has changed to accomodate this. You'll need to contact your ISP and ask them to retrain or reset your line to get appropriate speed for your physical connection. Your WAN time of 7 hours compared with the 117 hours of LAN use suggest you've got a dodgy line, unless you've been unplugging the telephone lead or something.

2. One phone line per Modem router obviously but you can have several switches working off it.

If you your line downstairs then install the modem near that, then run a cat5e cable upstairs and into your device upstairs, or into a switch so that you can share that signal between multiple devices.

  1. The noise margins look very high, which could explain the low connection speed.
  2. You can only have one modem/router. There are quite a few options available for extending the network around the house. What do you actually want to achieve?

How do you get the noise margins down? :( I'm getting like this:

strong wireless connection downstairs and high wired connection upstairs.

How long have you had broadband with Sky? If it's more than 2 weeks then give them a ring and ask them to put you on DLM. Make sure your modem is plugged into the BT master socket with no extensions and a new filter, also make sure a filter is fitted on anything else that plugs in to the phone line. Sky's target noise margin downstream is 7dB so you have a fair way to go yet and you should get much better speeds!

But if you are still new to Sky then DLM works over the period of the first week, so keep the modem on 24/7 during this time.

For noise margins/line faults you need to talk to Sky.

For the network (overwhelmed by the level of detail BTW) leave the router downstairs. Add a switch and/or wireless access point upstairs. Connect between the two using either Cat5e cable or Powerline adapters.
