With early reviews for Haze looking good (Famitsu 34/40 and Italian PSM 9/10), it came as a bit of a shock when IGN bestowed a dreaded 4.5/10 on the game in their review this morning. In curiosity, PSU.com contacted Rob Yescombe of Free Radical to hear what he had to say.

"My thoughts are "Owch". No, wait - MEGAowch," wrote Yescombe. "Haze has had mixed reviews, but even GoldenEye got a 4/10 when it first came out. With a 9/10 in the Italian PSM, and an extremely positive review in Famitsu, we're looking forward to people playing Haze and making a judgment for themselves."

What surprises me is anyone really expected anything other than 'average' score reviews. The market is flooded with generic sci-fi shooters from Timeshift to Blacksite Area 51 and something really needs to be special to stand out. The first warning sign for me was when it went exclusive; that itself spoke of wanting to limit development costs.

Once we start seeing the real game site reviews: Eurogamer, 1UP, EGM, games(tm) and Edge I can only see things getting worse.

When I saw an advert for it in my latest games(tm) and the only quote read "Exquisite... it doesn't get better than" from FHM, I knew they they were in trouble.

In fairness, PGR4 has a review from FHM on the front :p.
I think it's PGR4... It's a major game.

Damn, I remember seeing it and hearing about it before the PS3 was launched, poor poor game, Sony are not really doing a good enough job in making me part with 300 notes for a PS3 bar AAA titles, which are not even out yet, there is nothing on the PS3 they makes me go "must buy"

The demo was pretty damn poor, and i can only imagine the full game being more of the same,

What were they expecting exactly, it isn't anything groundbreaking and doesnt even look that good

Yeah, good point. :p

Comparing yourself to one of the best, most successful first person shooters of all time isn't a particularly good idea in any case. Let alone this one.

As said above, Free Radical are the guys behind Goldeneye.

Famitsu+FPS don't mix. Infact FPS+Japanese don't mix!
