I intend to reinstall Vista as my primary partition as I will be starting my upgrade path in summer. First purchase will be a 8800GTX. Followed by an Intel Quad core late September (as currently they are planning to revamp their C2D range in July). All in preparation for DX10 gaming.
However, I still prefer XP for DX9 gaming. So I am intending to dual boot Vista and XP.
As Vista will be my main OS I am looking to strip as much from XP as I possibly can and it still boot, have net access (for online game play) and the ability to play games. The only applications I want on the system is a firewall and the games themselves.
I will be using nLite to customise XP and to strip it bare. I have no doubts that there are a few members on OCuK that have stripped XP to its minimum. And I was wondering the best way to go about it. What services you stripped out and it still boots. What registry edits you can do to make the system run on as little as possible. Disabling NTFS last access, as many services as possible, removing media player. Basically everything and anything that is not needed to play a game.
Any pointers are most appreciated. (And yes, I know the hardware I am buying probably makes what i am doing redundant - but then I guess I am doing it for the sheer sake of it). I guess my ultimate aim would be to get XP almost down to a console level OS.
Thanks, in advance.
