Well consider this maybe? Why do people employ power line units in the first place? Because they give a more solid performance than wifi?Interesting but confusing for me. If it is using powerline as its backhaul (and I'm not sure I've understood that correctly) then it sort of has few of the advantages of mesh and all the disadvantages of powerline. Seems the only "mesh-y" thing about it is no need to configure the AP portion and maybe better seamless hand-off of devices between access points?
I too though would be interested in how they operate in the real world for someone on here.

I had a wifi connection from my study to some home music/entertainment stuff about 15ft away through a wall. I could see the wifi suffer when people walked around in the room. Homeplugs = solid connection though.I've tried powerline a couple of times, All it achieved was to bring my sync speed down from 75mbps to 25mpbs in the space of 24hrs.
I ended up just using wifi as it was more reliable. Now I've just finished pulling in a couple of cables with a decent single access point in my loft which now gives me full signal throughout the house on 5ghz.
No harm in purchasing a mesh system with a good returns policy and trying it. If it doesn't work then get your money back. At least you tried. I've heard good things about Google mesh and also the Tenda MW3 seems ok.
