going to cost a bomb by the looks of it but with no standout X38 released so far, and with a projected november release DFI might finally get a board to the market in time.

was all pumped for the IX38 Quad GT but it looks plagued by stability problems so far and the DQ6 only has 2 pci-e slots so that's out the window too.

mmmm, i don't think i could wait that long.

Im looking for another board to replace my DS4 Ver. 1.1 -

It's going to be a toss up between an Asus x38 P5E, DFI Lanparty P35 or a DFI Blood Iron.

Where have you heard that the Abit IX38 QuadGt has stability issues ??

I have just ordered mine, have yet to see what you are saying.

Edit, Carp, just saw all the stuff on the Abit forum....which by the way seems to not respond most of the time...Christ, now I am not looking forward to my new parts tomorrow....

lol - just what you want to hear when u have some gear coming isn't it

have a gander at that theres a couple of guys with the board who know their way around hardware.

http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/reviews/815-abit-ix38-quadgt-living-review.html

all new boards have issues usually, you'd expect it to be as good as the ip35-pro in another month or 2 but x38 hasn't taken off with a bang that's for sure.

the fact that he needs heaps of vcore over 400fsb versus his previous board isn't great though, let's hope abit get onto top of it quickly coz i'll prolly end up with the board too because i think the DFI will come in around £200 which is insane.

yeah I have been watching the Living review closely...he didn't really raise my Alert Radar with his initial findings...although what do I know. I wonder if it will be ok to use at Stock for a while with this little lot:

Motherboard: Abit IX38 Quad GT
Belkin 4 USB port PCI card [Mobo only has 4 at rear IO]
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 8500C 2 x 1GB - two kits [4GB in total]
CPU: Q6600 Go SLACR OEM
CPU Cooler: Tuniq Tower 120 LED
Thermal paste: Arctic Cooling MX-2

Graphics : Gigabyte 8800GT 512 MB
Case: Silverstone TJ09 (inc clear side panel)
Power Suply: Enermax Galaxy 850W Modular ATX 2.2
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint 500GB SATA
Optical drive: NEC SATA DVD R/W
Operating System: Vista Ultimate 64 bit

might get by for a month or two at stock...if that is stable:o oh now I really am not looking forward to it landing.... I wouldn't mind I was on the verge of ordering an Abit IP35 Pro........just opted for the IX38 at the last having read Clunks first impressions....oh well time will tell if I have been foolish.

he was pushing it pretty hard when he got the problems & it seemed fine with his quad @ 3.6

i'm only looking @ x38 boards coz i'll be running 2 x 3870's otherwise i'd prolly stick with my p5k-dlx but you shouldn't have too much trouble with a decent overclock i wouldn't think.

Now your just saying that to make me stop crying....lol :p

Perhaps he is upset as he was looking to go 4GHz on H20..perhaps us on air will be just fine and dandy ?

In all seriuosness...It will take me a fiar bit of time to find my way around the board and the whole Intel thing, having a DFI and AMD combo for so long, ahhh, it is a real pitty DFI have gone backwards...I would have loved nothing more than building a new rig around a good X38 DFI product....sigh

Yeh, and they are still 775 socket. So they will run and clock in any 775 mobo.

I'm not saying they won't clock, it's just that dual's clock better on the fsb than current quads. It's thought that the increase in L2-cache hinders it slightly hence the lower fsb, and the good/bad news is that Penryn has a further increase in cache making it harder to overclock on the fsb (or so it's thought, not enough info atm)

Expect an initial FSB drop in the larger cache's at first (at least). Initial testing results are putting the Penryn at lower FSB than our Q6600. The only real upgrade from good current G0 steppings may have to be a high multiplier Penryn. That means high cost.

Initial Anandtech report is up on the X48....

i was hoping for 450FSB or 475 for the penryn i was planing on getting

i am likely to get the FSB i want :(

I hope they dont bin BIOS updates for the X38s in order to push the X48s for Penryn overclocking.

the X38 isnt a bad chipset, mine maxes out the FSB on my E6400 as easily as my P35 did, at equal or lower voltages and noticably lower NB temps, though TBH i doubt PC Probe most of the time..... NB HSF is hot to touch, temp reasout is 31C .
