Hi all, I have a problem with my board and memory. I was informed that there is a problem with this memory (G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5) running on a DFI LT X48-T2R board with the 333/800 strap? Didn't know this when I purchased them there was no info stating that there was a problem.

Now I have been told by the G-Skill Tech guy at extremesystems "Yes there are few issues with DFi motherboard, and 333/800 is one of them. that is why we don't recommend DFi X48 for this model of memory". My only hope is for a BIOS update or does anyone here know if there is a way to get this working with the 333/800 strap or would I be better just getting a diff brand of memory if so which? I bought this from Overclockers about 8 WKs back stuck what to do now.

The memory works fine at 333/1066 its default setting, but crashes as I get into windows when I use the 333/800 :(

Just for general information, this is'nt just a DFI problem. The ram in question has a problem with all X38 and X48 mobo's. G-Skill put the info in an obscure part of thier site, in the hope that DFI would take all the flak. So it's a case of "buyer beware". What they should have said was "that is why we don't recommend any X48 for this model of memory".

Really didnt know that  Would I be right to request an RMA and have this memory exchanged for something else? If so who G-Skill or OC whom I bought the memory from?

No 333? Tab was missing from CPU-Z is that normal or due to my board/RAM problem?

All that does is confirm what i said earlier. There is no 333 tab because G-Skill has'nt programmed any SPD values for 333. Cpuz only reads from the SPD tables of the memory, not from the mobo.

Got the new memory direct from Crucial set my board to "Optimized Defaults" and saved then restarted, but before it rebooted I powered it off and took out the G-Skill and replaced them with the Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 and restarted when it got to windows yes you guessed correct it hung yet again

I then rebooted and changed the from auto to 333/800 and tried again got to windows loading up and it hung again.

So thats 3 lots of memory and none of them will boot if I set them at "Optimized Defaults" or manually set the BIOS to the 333/800 strap. Is it worth trying this memory Corsair 4GB XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 and if I do and it fails with the "Optimized Defaults" would I be in my rights to send it back and receive a refund?

I wish you had said you were using 4x1gb of ram before. To boot with 4x1gb you would need to set trfc to 52. The default setting is 42, which for 4 sticks is too tight. Ram voltage and NB voltage may need raisng a notch with 4 sticks as well.

Sorry Kit, I only used two sticks at one time never used the four together and never will as the other two are my m8's he just lent me them to test my board.

I may have misread your post anyway (just got in from work knackered :D).

Having tried all the ram you have, i think you should rule ram out of the problem now. As you cannot guarentee stability, flashing the bios is'nt an option either. So if it was me in your situation, i would rma the mobo now.
