I recently had to buy a new wireless router as the one we had just packed up. i went to a local shop as it was christmas eve and bought a netgear dg834 v5 brought it home set it up fine and it connected to the net.

After a few hours it tends to drop the wireless connections to it and it is impossible to reconnect. i'm just wondering if this is a common problem to most of the netgear dg834 routers?

also the wired network still connects to the internet as well.

Have you checked/updated the firmware on the router? Also I assume it's a dg834g v5?

Are you noticing the connection dropping on the laptop/PC, have you tried using a different wifi channel?

I had a wireless problem with a v5 so returned it.

Can't remember if the wireless would fail if it was left enabled all day, but remember it stopped working after using the wi-fi button to turn wireless on/off during the day.

Used wired connection to change wireless channel (tried all of them) and it made no difference so required a reboot of router to get wireless working again.

Can't remember the firmware versions I tried.

Edit: Not had wireless issues with other routers I've used. Including Netgear DG834Gv2 and DG834GT

i've tried updating the firmware on the router but it still has the same problem.
i've got about 2 laptops 1 netbook and a iphone all unable to connect again.

i have heard of issues before and i've had issues before with netgear, it was all the guy at the shop had though. I'm tempted to get my money back and just go buy something online.

I tried changing the wireless channel from auto to 3 then to 11. and i checked with other wifi networks and those are all on channel 6 and 7.

i do wonder as i noticed this router has WPS and WDS which i never came across until now. none of the wifi devices i have support this except a dynamode usb adapter i got at the same time as the router. i was wondering if this affects things?

also its the DG834G v5.
