I have a computer down stairs which has a Netgear DG834GT connected to it. I've recently started to move 2 flights up, to make a small office atm , i just have my laptop and all in printer (fax, scanner etc) want to know what ways are there to boost the signal of the down stairs router? As up stairs i get a very weak signal, What can i do to boost the signal? would i need a gateway or signal booster?

yeah i can remove the arial for it, but is the item a Gateway / Bridge that i need?

if you can get the antenna off i would reccomend a higher gain antenna
some thing like this
NET-WL-ANT009OTC
£10.79
9dbi
Reverse TNC plug
your standard supplied antenna is probally only 2 dbi

sorry we are not allowed to tell you where from as they are a competitor

Do a survey with netstumbler and the laptop, build/buy a parabolic reflector, buy a better antenna. Bottom line the antenna is a budget item on most standard kit and you are better off with something better if you want a good signal.

It's like my neighbour spending 1k on a nice TFT TV and feeding it with a 20 year old coax/ariel setup and moaning because it looks crap and he cn't get most of the freeview stuff he was told he could. A few hours and £75 (only 7.5% of what he'd just sent on the TV) later he has a great picture and can't understand why he didn't buy a new ariel months ago.
