I've got 2 DG834GT's (originally from Sky but have DGTeam firmware on them, although not the latest).

One is connected to the net, my fileserver and hard wired to the other router which is downstairs.

I have wireless enabled on both routers with different names.

My desktop (on second router) can see and use the fileserver without any trouble at all.

My laptop, when used wirelessly, cannot see the fileserver, yet can see the desktop, no matter which router it's connected to. When plugged into netwrok cable, it can see the fileserver.

Any ideas what's going on here?
 
Yes. I can't remember what channels they are on at present but both are on different channels and at least 3 or 4 away from each other (i.e. channel 4 and channel 7).

with dhcp being off on the switch wireless i think the wireless is probably having a problem assigning an ip via the dhcp from the other router.

the router you are using as a switch was not designed to be used as a switch with wireless, why do you need two wireless active, i guess for range ?

i would disable the wireless on the second router and use it as a wired switch or you could set static ips within the same range but outside of the dhcp range. manually set the gateway to be the main router.
 
Assume for a moment I have no idea what you're talking about with regard to manually setting the gateway to be the main router and setting static ips (yes, I'm pretty useless when it comes to routers).

The main reason I did this was for range. Both routers have different different names, i.e routerone and routertwo.

As I use my laptop in more than one location, would it cause issues manually setting an ip?
 
from what i understand you said that it all works with your current setup except two of the devices can not see each othrer when they are on the second router (wireless switch)

have you tried connecting directly to the ip address \\192.168.200.3\c$ ?
 
The laptop cannot see the server when connected to either router wirelessly, and am now having trouble doing so when connected via a cable too. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

I have been abroad recently and used an unsecure network. I have checked for malware since, nothing came up, and didn't put any sensitive information into web browsers or the like while doing so. Would that have caused a problem?
 
The server is on WHS. Plugged into router one which is also on the adsl.

I can ping it. The loss rate was zero, round trip times were 3ms.

Although after the whole lot was powered down the ip of the server has changed to 192.168.200.4

when you say "can't access it" what are you using to access it?

have you setup local shares on the WHS, did you try like i said to connect directly to ip address ?

type this into explorer's address bar \\192.168.200.4\

just like that
 
I've tried using the 'shared folders on server' shortcut, going through the network folder, and tried the WHS console. Neither will connect.

I tried that and got 'This web page is not found'
