I have a DGM 24" monitor bought off of OCuk in late 2007 (nearly 5 years old).
It has now started to give me problems...When I switch on it gives me a Black screen with one long Horizontal line and a few Vertical color lines..I knock the top of the Monitor and the image comes back. It does this periodicly, but can be ok for hours after.

Can I send this back to OCUK for Repair or ReNew. Under UK law it states...
Protected for 6 years under Faulty Items.

I Love this DGM 16:10 monitor.......

My Samsung 22" is 9 years old and going strong...

Be Good...........

I doubt it.

As far as I'm aware the Sale of Goods Act has a 6 year limitation period for bringing a claim. It doesn't say goods have to last for 6 years.

What it does say is goods must be:

'as described',
'of satisfactory quality', and
'fit for purpose'

If 5 years is a reasonable lifespan for the monitor then that's the end of the matter.

If you want a definitive answer in your particular situation then contact OcUK.

Can you prove it was faulty when you bought it? If not, tough luck

The law states:

After the first six months (and for up to six years) – the retailer is entitled to ask the consumer to prove the item was faulty when they bought it. If they are able to do this they are entitled to a repair or replacement.

Does that mean The Sun Newspaper is Wrong????
Cash for Questions--Mr Money Helps...
Under Law,Consumers are protected for 6 years against Faulty items that are not of satisfactory quality given the price paid, if they are not fit for purpose over a reasonable period or not described..
Just quoting what they said about a TV..TV or Monitor more or less the same.

Perhaps a letter to DGM UK..
Cheers

That is Impossible to say so will not stand up in court..

What I can say on this is that under EU law you really get a 2 year warranty not a 1 year as stated but you have to take this up with the manufacturer. I have used this peice of legislation with a netbook with samsung.

In you case 5 years is good but TBH its teh good old psu issue and the capacitors failing and its a 30 quid fix unless you do it yourself.

Yes, if you choose to read it as saying you have a 6 year warranty.

Good luck with that.

I have fixed 2 of these DGM monitors and it cost about £1 to fix both of them.

Here is my thread on how to fix (thats if it is the capacitors on the power board). On one of the pictures you can see the power board where you can see 2 purple capacitors obove the transformer - these are the 2 I changed for new caps and the monitors then worked.

Golly if it is that cheep to fix I'll get my friend to have a look..I'm useless with electronical parts.

Thanks Folks...I Love this monitor for use with Photoshop...So worth fixing if possible.

Take Care

I'm pretty sure the EU rule is a minimum standard of 2 years, despite many things saying 1year. Above that its whatever special deal the seller had going.

I had that monitor for 4 years before it broke. To this day I can't find a monitor that matches the picture quality of that trusty old DGM. Maybe it's psychological but I don't know what it was about the monitor that made me rate it so highly, maybe the high contrast and vivid colours, or the excellent viewing angles, or maybe my eyes just got used to it. I know it had some sort of VA panel but I'm not sure what type of VA panel it was. I bought an IIyama VA panel monitor thinking it would have the same picture quality, but nooo, it was atrocious, made me dizzy and nauseous, so I sent it back. Even IPS monitors don't impress me, after that humble but brilliant DGM. RIP.

I Love this monitor too..It did same thing today--switch on and just a few faint lines. Switched it off & On at power plug and it came back on...A friend who works in IT is gona look at it for me. If it can be fixed he'll do it, if not, I'll buy a Dell 16:10 U2412m.
My old huge monsterous monitor lasted over 10 years..My Samsung 22" still going strong.
I need to rob a bank manager.......:)
Be Good.
