DHCP / DNS issues - Server2008R2

I'm hoping someone here will hopefully put me in the right direction here... server newbie here!

I have a large number of workstations on this Server2008R2 network which are giving a different name whenever I do NSLookup on them - for example this workstation is called STL-001, but whenever I do NSlookup on it it's returning a name STL-050.

I've restarted the DNS / DHCP server role on the DC, & restarted the workstation to no success.

Any ideas? It's not causing me a big problem yet, apart from our web filtering software giving invalid results.

have you tried flushing the dns on the client?

Yes - made no difference.

This is happening on a lot of workstations throughout the network.

Stale DNS records? If so, DNS scavenging could be worth investigating.

I checked all roles etc and everything looked fine - all services etc ok. Waited until everyone else went home and restarted all servers - bingo everything looks better!

Don't have a clue what had stopped / needed resolved!
