Going to buy a girl who is diabetic some chocolates for christmas. Now i'm a complete fool when it comes to diabetes and was thinking a box of chocolates might not be the best idea due to the sugar?

Correct?

Then i got thinking well if that is correct, maybe they make nice diabetic chocolates?

Or will she just be fine with the normal ones?

Sounds like a medical thread to me, but a quick Goggle search turned up some diabetic chocolate links, so I would assume its made because diabetics cant eat normal chocolate in any large quantity.

you won't believe this i was outside a damn thontons today. Well i thought i'd buy a small box of each...being the kind gentleman i am. Hopefully we can eat them in bed together....i'm really hoping for a MERRY christmas :p

Another vote for Thorntons. My dad buys Thorntons diabetic chocs every so often and he says they taste great :)

A word of warning......

My wife is diabetic and if you eat too many they have a laxative effect

I ate half a dozen and got to read a book in the bathroom.....

ooooooooooh great warning. that could have been embarassing. thanks soo much. i'll be sure not to have too many lol.

Sugar free Polos are the same...

I would say don't bother with them and get normal ones. Being diabetic myself, you got to have a little treat now and then. But that's just my opinion :) But it seems people saying there good so give them a try. I'm gonna check them out and see what's in them as i'm interested to see the difference with normal chocolate.. From my experience these "diabetic" foods are never actually that much better.

Just curious, type 1 or 2?

I agree, laxative with explosive effects!!

I ate a whole bag of toffee as it was so tasty... ended up redecorating the toilet bowl!

The diabetic chocolate is actually a waste of money, get some normal chocolate.

Although what type is she 1 or 2?
If she is type 2 then you will have to find out if she is on a controlled diet, if she is she may not be able to have either of them.

If she is type 1 or if she is type 2 and has injections for her insulin control then she can have as much as she wants, depending on what regime she is on.
It would be even better if she has been on the DAFNE training which give even greater control of what she can eat.

well when we go out she eats wherever and we get drunk a lot on a variety of cocktails.

All she does is insulin injection before she eats...so would that mean type 1?

Sounds like she is type 1, im no expert, so she she be alright with normal chocolate, since she can just inject for it. Or she can just have some alcohol with them, saving on the injection.
