Now I know Diablo 3 is out but I'm living at my inlaws at the minute and don't have a reliable internet connection.

therefore I'm considering buying a copy of this off of the bay to give it a blast.

Is it worth me doing so?

I think, and I'm certainly not alone on the thought; that Diablo II is superior to III in every single way, so in my opinion; if you can find a copy grab it ASAP.

Personally I think it does, sure D3 is ahead on the technical side of the graphics, but the WoW art style of D3 is terrible, I much prefer the gritty old school look of D2.

Other than that D3 cannot compete at all, 16 player (8 humans with 8 mercenaries) Coop vs 4 player coop... Hmm. :)

Much better and more interesting classes, more content and no Auction House to take the fun out of finding items, and the perfect gem + rune currency of D2 is amazing.

Great game, worth getting the expansion too as it adds things to the entire game, not just the extra act. Despite being low resolution the art style is lovely and the gameplay gets you addicted. I'd read a few guides to know how to build your character, some of these are based around items you'll never see but as long as you get your skills right you'll be ok. Although the latest patch allows you to reset your skills a few times.

Yup, get it and the expansion. At first it will feel dated because of being used to the fluidity of the D3 graphics and gameplay. Give it a couple of hours though and you'll love it. The customisability of your class will impress you and you'll actually be excited finding rares, sets and uniques because of how ridiculously balanced and perfect the loot system is.

Enjoy!

Main reason D3 left me dissapointed was the lack of freedom, in D2 the areas were huge and there was none of this "being funnelled down a small corridoor" feeling.

I think D3 is actually closer to being like Dungeon Siege 3 than Diablo 2, the linearity left a lot to be desired.
