Diablo 3 will let players buy and sell items for real money

I think there'll be a lot more than just having top gear to doing well in PvP. :)

Hoping it'll be a bit like wow, if someone just buys their way into good gear and doesn't learn their character it's not going to help them.

It'll depend how complicated things are. But I don't see how gear won't make a big difference. Chances are he'll just bounce up and down between people good enough to own him and people who simply don't have the gear to compete no matter how good they are.

I didnt buy a thing in D2 and got along perfectly fine. So after my initial outlay on the game (and expansion down the line) I wont be spending any money for items. Though being able to sell my unwanted decent items and buying something better suited for my character with the money i would be interested in.

It'll make some difference for sure, but not the be all and end all I think. :)

And obviously he'll bounce between players that can and can't beat him, that's how the ranking will work for anyone. :)

We'll have to wait and see. I don't see it having a massive effect on my enjoyment of PvP, and it's not going to even come into the PvE side of things. :p

Well yes but you normally assume they even off at a level where they simply aren't good enough rather than at a level where there gear isn't good enough. Such a thing would only be frustrating for people who simply can't compete because of gear not skill.

From what a recall of Darkspore PvP, it didn't matter how good you were if the enemy you were against could simply stomp you with superior gear and it was lame.

Anyway, I've never seen the attraction of Diablo PvP...

I can't see how this system would work in any interesting way, it'll just end up with market saturation to the point where it's pointless to sell anything sub uber rare due to the dual Blizzard fees of entering and collecting a sale. Entropia Universe uses a real money market and makes it work by needing a constant investment to do any activity (i.e to go pve you need to constantly buy ammo, repair gear etc with essentialy currency that equates to real money), whereas as far as we know in Diablo 3 you'll be able to play and farm items indefinately without any need for real-money investment.

I really don't care at all about that micro transaction stuff.

Only games I would consider spending real hard cash would be Guild Wars and TF2, mainly because of the amount of time I've spent on them and the appreciation, they can have a bit more of my cash.

Not selling, not buying, just playing. I don't understand the collector mentality at all, especially virtual stuff.

Why would you NOT sell stuff for IRL cash if you could and did not want the item?

In WoW for example I had/still have more gold than I know what to do with. If I could get that out into hard cash then hell yes I would have.

Because its an in game item, its kind of silly buying them for real money.

Selling them isnt a bad idea though if silly people will pay for them :p

I'll have to try item grinding in D3 and selling stuff for cash then.

PVP in WoW is a joke to compare to. PVP in RPGs should be like GW, where everyone has the same stat gear and are winning is a case of player skill only.

Tbh I'm wondering how its possibly going to work to there advantage. The only way Blizzard will make money on this is if the players sell price is low but the buy price is high. Which means the player will be far better off selling there items directly to another player instead of back to Blizzard and on the same level, buying items off other players will be cheaper than buying it off Blizzard, so everyone but Blizzard wins...

The only thing Blizzard can possibly offer is security for the trade which will not be an issue when it gets going.

1 word. Commission.

If Blizzard made 3% off every sale they would not only stomp out an underground Chinese trading ring, but it's another source of free money for them :P

Shock News: Blizzard make Cash Cow!

Blizzard will get money from you buying a premium account to even post money auctions. They will get a cut from each sale, and as far as I'm aware, they also will charge a withdrawal fee for your money.

At the end of the day this isn't going to stop farmers, it's just making sure that Blizzard get their cut.
