Well... i dug out my old copy of diablo 2 (+ expansion) and i must say its every bit as good as i remember :D

but i seem to have messed summat up...

i started it all in single player, but then just to test i loaded the character in multiplayer and explored a bit in that mode (kinda forgot i was playing in multiplayer to be honest), but i've just loaded up the game again for a bit more play and the maps are all lost, i can still go everywhere i could before (i.e. its remembered waypoints and the like), and my character is intact, but all the maps look unexplored :(

anyone know what the deal is? its messed me up a bit :(

It has always been like that when playing a character in multiplayer mode. I am currently playing multiplayer at the moment with a friend and when i exit and go back into the game as single or multiplayer the maps are reset.

If you just stick to single player though, the map stays fully explored.

Hope this helps.

oh ok, well the reason i was testing multiplayer is cuz i want to go through it with my missus who loves diablo 2, are you saying that in multiplayer mode there is no way to keep the maps, they reset each and every time?

(seems a bit mad)

i've noticed the game creating ma0, ma1, ma2 files, could these be restored to show where's already been adventured or is that something seperate?

There are hacks and such that will display the map for you but it is considered illegal and a bannable offense if you are caught.

So basically no.

illegal???

i only want to play a lan game with my wife for a laugh and be able to see our progress rather than loosing it everytime... whats illegal??

the maps are randomely generated each time you load. Quests and waypoints will be still save so I really don't see the problem.

on 'open battlenet' (the multiplayer using single player characters) u shouldnt get banned for using a maphack, only on the normal BNET u will get banned.

as for the maps its normal for maps to reset if you take your single character into OPEN-BNET its not a bug its to do with how the games been made (maps are randomly generated with online character everytime you log on and into a game)

I can see what you're saying about having to rediscover the map (ie you have the waypoint for Far Oasis but need to rediscover the Sand Maggot Layer, it is a bit time consuming.)

You can look at it this way in that because you have to randomly run around, you may pick up more xp than if you know exactly where you are going.

iv totally stopped playing that game now lol, i played it for about 3 years solid when i was younger (school age) seems 'lifetimes' ago, after my solid 3 yr's on it i played it less and less, then on/off - uninstall/install.... then stopped, had good characters too its was sad to know that they would expire but i saw no point in just loggin on every so often just to load my character so they woldnt expire then exit the game straight after. so there all gone now :(

When you say 'Lost' them do you mean accidently or just let them expire because you got bored of playing like me?

i remember with mine i actually got so bored i just deleted LOL, then i returned to the game months later to start a fresh was ok for a bit, got bored again this time i unistalled the game and left them to expire :)

they need to make Diablo 3!!!!! or at least another RPG thats as good as diablo was (hard to do but can be done i beleive)

I'm having a mare!!! been playing over TCP/IP with the missus, and i was on my laptop but stupidly it wasnt plugged in :(

so basically, the laptop died, and i thought we'd lost it all, but through some sort of autosave magic, my character and the current location in the game is safe...

HOWEVER, my missus' character still has all her gear, but has been reset to a level 4 :( - any idea what's going on there and if its recoverable? we're out of sync now and i'm levels ahead :(

for future ref, if i remember to plug my ac power in, does the host just save and quit and all is saved, or do we both have to do it or what?

There where plenty of trainers to allow you to modify your characters stats for singleplayer tcp/ip games, so you could just change the charcter stats back
