Afternoon people, been having a problem with my graphics card recently - some serious problems ;P

Best way to describe it is a picture

Also get random coloured dots all over the screen outside of games, big white lines through random parts also, multicoloured letters when booting up and so on and so forth.

I've actually ordered an 8800GTS today anyway, i'm just hoping its not a possible motherboard problem?

Anyone experienced similar? Or can help?

Absolutely, it's perfectly playable like that, i know.. i was just curious - haha!

Good to know that its the problem, gives me an excuse to swap the 7900gt with 8800gts 640mb too, should see an ok increase in performance? ;p

There should be definite noticeable performance jump.

tried changing drivers ? changing the graphics settings, does it only do it in WoW ?

As i was saying it happenes even when booting the computer up, and on desktop and whatever else - not just WoW

Driver wise, i've updated them two times since i got Vista (Maybe its x64 Vista that screws with everything, it's cursed!) and its happened since then, and it used to happen before vista a little but not to this extent - its got worse over the last month or so.

You could try downgrading your drivers to earlier versions and see if that helps. Other than that i dont really know. prehaps a 8800 GTS 320mb will help cure it ;)

Always worth checking first.....

A 4 year old raptor of mine failed recently, went on the WD website, completed an online form and I had a replacement within a week.

I believe there is a known problem with WoW and certain graphics cards causing this sort of effect. If it does it in other games its the gfx card but if its just in WoW i'd do some forum searching before you invest in another card.

I had this when playing EQ and WoW

it is due to your Graphics card overheating.

i cleared out a load of dust from my old 9800xt pro, and it was fine for a week or two, but after that it kept doing it again.

the onyl way to get rid of it total was to de-clock the GPU, and then it was fine.

Not sure about the overheating theory....If I recall don't the Nvidia drivers have an inbuilt temp sensor which has overheat protection/warning?

The 79's did have problems on their release causing a lot of the to be RMA'd.
