Hi all!

Heres a quick problem for you. We have another client who has a Draytek 2820 router with VPN configured to allow us to dial in to their network. I just try dialling in successfully but Windows and ipconfig show different ip addresses.

Windows shows the correct IP as configured on the router but
ipconfig shows a 169.X.X.X address.

I can't browse any network addresses and have to connect to the router via the external IP.

Any ideas? I'm using Vista at the mo.

that 169 address is probably a default address for an adaptor that cannot obtain an address by DHCP

Need more info on your network connections

We have our internal network here running on 172.16.0.X and their network on 192.168.1.X. They use DHCP through the Draytek router.

When it dials the connection it gets the correct DNS etc but the IP just doesnt want to be retrieved. It is set on the server to use 192.168.1.99 but just wont have it.

It works on other VPN connections we dial though...

You could set your IP manually and then test it. Does everything work okay? Also check the firewall logs to see if something is blocking DHCP, etc. to the VPN zone.
