I've got a machine here thats having a problem connecting to the net via a dial up modem. It was upgraded to win xp pro for 2000, and when it tries to connect to the net I get a first error of

Error 6 The handle is invalid

Then I get

Error 50 The request is not supported

Now Most of the time I get the second error and I've tried a new modem.

In device manager there is a Wan Miniport (IP) device that says "This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31) If I try and update them, it fails, and if I try and uninstall it it says it can't because "The device may be required to boot up the computer", I have tried in safe mode too.

It gets on the net ok with a network card installed through my Lan, although it doesn't seem to do anything when going to the windows update site, it just sits there searching for updates.

Any ideas as I'm stumped :(

Yeah, plus I've tried a new modem with a different chipset, have also tried a re-install of SP2 and that don't work :( I've cloned the disk ready to try a repair install tomorrow as I can't really spend any more time on this :(
