Behind you... Naked!
This one has been bugging me all day.

A friend has asked me to help them sort it out, but to be honest, its got us.

PC is an Intel P4 3.6HT. on an Asus P5GD1-FM Mobo. running WinMCE

Modem is seemingly irrelevant as we have tried a number of PCI ones, Ambient / intel v92 / Connexant, SafeCom and they all do the same thing.

Driver may be an issue on this as they all seem to come up in the device manager as Intel v92 , but then they all connect just fine, so I dont know?

The usual settings such as disconnect after X Minutes and so on, are all seto to 30 minutes, but its never lasted longer than about 5

It does this at my friends house, also mine too.

So, its got to be the PC surely?

As its a fresh install, we decided to reinstall and it still does it?

Lost and definitely need help on this one?

Anything that can help out wil do!

Have you tried a different dialup account. www.freedom2surf.net

I used to have the same prob so had tiscali and virgin on mine. Recently switched to the above because of virgins price increase and have had no probs.

OF course!

No, we have not tried a different account.

Should have seen that one I recon.

Whats even worse, is that they have just sent off for a BroadBand package, so in something like a week, they wont need Dialup anyway, but they still want me to sort it out for the last few days!

Anyway, I will sort out an account and see what happens.

Thanks.

Hookaaaayyy!!!!

I have mentioned trying out another account, and thats not done yet, I have to do it ( annoying ) tomorrow, but a laptop is perfectly fine withthat account.

So, that said, its less likely to be the ISP then, and more likely to be the PC?

Weird isnt it?

Dialup? Yeah, some people do!

What it is, is simply that they only do the odd Email here and there and so have no use for Broadband... Thats set to change however, as they are getting Broadband by Friday... Already gone through, just waiting for the stuff to come through!

As for that bloody PC, I setup Freedom2Surf ( Thanks for that link, I have kept the info cos its the easiest dialup I have found so far... 10 seconds and your on! = spot on ) and it connected all night the other day, went back to the PC and it was still there - I setup a download of a Linux CD knowing that will take all night at least, and sure enough, its was still chugging along... Switched back to Tiscali and I got 3 minutes before getting kicked!!! - Ooof!

Anyway, I phoned my friend up, who has a laptop running perfectly fine on that tiscali dialup and they said that they had been running perfectly well on the laptop, which sort of concerned me as they have been able to connect at the same time as I was using the very same info?? - anyway.

Bottom line is that I setup Tiscali on another PC for them, and guess what?

Its just fine on Tiscali? ( So far anyway ) I ran it for over an hour, and considering the other PC lasts for 5 or so minutes, this was a miracle?

So, I am thinking that the PC itself is simply unable to use Tiscali???

Well annoying and well weird.

It could be the software on the PC I dont know????

Either way, the issue will be resolved by friday, so why they dont just use F2S till then I dont know, but then again, this is a PC user, so who knows what the hell they thjink at the best of times?

Ok, cheers for the help all.
