Diamond Radeon 4870 XOC Black Edition is out

Overated, overhyped and not worth the wait.

The bios lets you overclock to 950/1200 but the cards can't

Early buyers in the states are reporting the cards not even stable at stock 800/950.

You'd be better off buying any 4870 and overclocking yourself IMO and using the money saved to put a better cooler on it.

well it asus i dont know but if you can overclock diamond to 950/4800 and stable it its prety dam impresive

You can't though. They aren't cherry picked and no extra voltage or any difference to standard cards.

If you flash a normal card with the bios you can try and overclcok to 950/1200 as well.

My card overclocks to 875/1100 which is better than the first buyers of the Diamond are getting.

Hiya The Asgard, out of interest, which graphics card overclocking utility are you using and if you have, what fan speed have you manually set? :)

I just used the AMD Overclocking tool. I'm running my 4870 under water but I did have a quick play on air at 850 with the fan control on auto.

If your planning on clocking your card on air I would recommend the Asus Bios which has a really good fan profile.

Very easy to do and undo if required.

I'm sure its possible with cherry picked cards and a slight voltage increase on the GPU. My sapphire runs a stable 880/1200.

That's my point. The diamonds are no different to any other 4870 with the exception you can try and overclock by using CCC only.

Hence not worth the extra.

I must be unlucky everytime, mine is a POS when it comes to overclocking, 815/900....

Not even possible to adjust voltage unless your willing to slap electrical tape on or hard mod the card :(

Maybe I'll just wack my core up to 845now for hell of it and have a go at crysis, time to sleep anyway at least it'll shut windows off quicker than I do.

Lol it lasted all of 10 seconds then as usualy screen flashed black with like 4 white lines on it and it recovered.

I didn't. 880/1200 is just with stock voltages. My card is completely standard apart from the cooling. Which is why I think 950/1200 is possible.

I agree. With cherry picking and more voltage I reckon you could as well. However, the diamonds aren't cherry picked or have higher voltage so you have proved the point that you might as well buy the cheapest 4870 and hope you get a good clocker like you have.

Mine won't go above 875/1100. One Mhz above 1100 on the memory and it artifacts.

For benching I could probably push 885-890 ish. My memory like yours seems to hit a wall and wont do much above 1200. Again I think voltage would sort it. However saying that the card isn't exactly memory bandwidth limited so its probably not worth doing.

Very happy with the 4870. Great card, great price and seems to handle anything I throw at it.

I'm tempted to go for the X2 but its getting to a point of dimishing returns with the current games. Might just wait this one out.
