did anyone actually own a NEO GEO ?

Waste of money buying one these days. They only have 4:3 composite (sometimes RGB) output and don't look to great on modern LCD/Plasma.

You can say the same for many older games consoles. Retro gamers tend to find themselves a good old 24" or 32" CRT for their old skool gaming fixes..!!

Its what I'd do if I ever wanted to revisit the glory days of SNES or PS1.. Those were the days. good old rose tinted specs..!!

Neo Geo was way toooo expensive for me when it was around. I remember seeing the screenshots of games and being blown away - made my Amiga 500+ look rubbish.

Actually any Neo Geo console with a serial number below 85k came with a excellent RGB output(consoles after were no where near as good, but are still great ).

I can assure you, both mine look amazing through a standard RGB connection on my 50" 3D plasma.

They do cost a lot of money, but these machines don't go down in value and they are more reliable then a german car.

I always fancied one when they came out but they were always out of the price range at the time. So this year I decided to treat myself to an AES and have a few games for it. Then I came across a cheap MVS 1 slot board and got a supergun so I have quite a few MVS games.

Then I few months ago on impulse I decided to get myself a CD neo geo. So I was quite happy with my gaming purchases this year regarding SNK Neo Geo stuff.

Good stuff.

I have been tempted with the CD just to complete my 3rd generation console collection, but I'm holding out for the 2nd edition CD version which is faster but quite pricey.

I'll probably eventually have a supergun setup, but for the time being I'm using the latest MVS-AES convertor, and have built up a pleasant collection of complete MVS carts. It really is an expensive and addictive hobby.

I've spent about 4k this year on Neo gear, but it is all still worth 4k or more...

I dreamed of owning one the whole time alas was always too pricey.

If you want to experience the best old school 2D fighters and other arcade classics from the nineties, using a brilliant arcade stick, you could probably pick one up for £120 with something like the stupidly cheap Samarai Shodown 2, which is arguably the best fighter or even game on the system.

Actually get a second joystick and your mates will visit your more often(if that's a good thing!)

That must be a nice collection you have M8 :). Yeah that is the thing with Neo Geo stuff it is nice to know that it is not going to devalue fast. I spent close on £500 and it is still worth the same. Not as I am interested in that side as I love the systems and wont sell them.

Anyone got a copy of Metal Slug and Super Sidekicks so I can come and visit? :D

Well I have Metal Slug 3 and 4, and the immense multi-player football series that is super sidekicks, 1 - 3(I have the ultra rare, on AES that is, Ultimate 11(super sidekicks 4) on MVS too). it's a canny trek from kent to geordie land though :)

I remember seeing them and wanting one, however I also wanted a Game gear yet didn't get one, I HATE MY PARENTS!!!!!! :D

It is a nice collection mate, great simple multi-player games to play with mates while having a few beers. When you buy a cart you really feel like you're getting your monies worth too, with them being the size of a brick and such.

Artwork is nice on the cases too, and they are better to display in a bookcase in your living room instead of books :)

What's the point in owning one second hand when you can get a lot of the games on the 360 and the Wii. And there are other options for playing the games what i'm not allowed to mention.

Because you cant get any better than playing a game on its original hardware it was made for.

I always wanted a Neo Geo as a kid. I must have been 12-13 at the time. Instead one of my rich yank uncles sent me something called a PC Engine console for Xmas. Mind was blown as I experienced R-Type with arcade perfect visuals etc.

That was about as close to an NG as I got :p

They probably cost the same today as they did back then, being collectors items an' all :p

You are right. If somehow a brand new Neo Geo console came on the market it would sell well.

It's hit and miss with games. I have 3 brand new games, but all of them are worth less then £100 each.

However, some Neo Geo games go for between $10-20k....

I've got one of these little beauties. This company reminds me of SNK, you can tell they had a passion for games and had geniuses in their ranks.
